Wayne, NJ – August 11, 2009 --Former New Jersey General Assembly candidate and Finance Chairman of the Bergen County Republican Organization Joseph Caruso announced today the formation of a new political action committee that will aggressively support and promote Republican causes and candidates.
The new group, titled – The Republican Organization (TRO) – will support fiscally conservative candidates and conduct research and disseminate information promoting conservative alternatives to the liberal ideology.
Caruso said The Republican Organization is a membership-based group open to anyone who is willing to work to promote the basic belief in free enterprise and personal responsibility. The organization will focus on:
1) Creating a fiscally responsible government;
2) Advocating business development strategies;
3) Regional and national energy independence;
4) Promoting free market solutions to social problems;
5) Illegal immigration reform
“I am confident we will attract a broad cross section of people – including elected officials – who recognize that the liberal experiment in New Jersey has failed miserably – just as it has failed in California,” said Caruso.
“It’s time for a new, more aggressive, economic issue oriented Republican movement to take root and blossom in this state,” he added
Heading the immediate TRO agenda will be fostering business development strategies for New Jersey – once seen as recession proof – that is now suffering from 9.2 percent unemployment.
“New Jersey over the past decade has done just about everything a state can do to discourage business development,” said Caruso.
“Republicans have to be champions of business growth and job creation – and we have to do it now.”
INFORMATION IS KEY
“What New Jersey Republicans are lacking is an ongoing organization that educates voters and promotes fiscally responsible positions,” said Caruso.
The Party needs a group of committed people who do not disappear after Election Day. “TRO will take on the role of doing the research, getting the facts and informing the voters. We are going to publish our data and we are going to challenge the rhetoric of the liberals with facts,” said Caruso.
To help build his new group, Caruso has teamed with Clifton Municipal Chairman Michael Mecca Chris Pordon, a former U.S. Marine from Princeton, will serve as TRO’s treasurer.
Mecca, a former Republican Chairman of Passaic County and a former freeholder has far reaching knowledge about running local elections, said Caruso. “We need people in the organization who are grounded in the basics of running local campaigns and grass roots party building”.
Mecca said: “Joe Caruso and people like him are the future of the Republican Party. He is smart, driven and knowledgeable about using new media to communicate ideas. He is attracting young people into the party and that’s what we need.”
Pordon, who served in Iraq, said: “As Republicans, we have an incredible opportunity before us,” he said. “After a decade of failed liberal policies, New Jersey is ready for a government that respects economic freedoms and encourages us to grow and succeed. To make it happen, we need strong, principled leaders who have the knowledge and experience to turn our state around. I am excited to join with Joe and Mike to identify, inform, and promote those leaders.”
Caruso vows TRO will be a different kind of Republican organization. “Our objectives are long term. We are not going to be concerned about only one or two election cycles. We want to begin to change the political culture of the party from one that is interested in individual self-preservation to one that is interested in building a long-lasting, deep rooted, winning organization.”
“Mike, Chris and I are committed helping create what is lacking in New Jersey -- a new era of Republican activism,” added Caruso.
