CONSERVATIVE GROUP ANNOUNCES CANDIDATES FOR DISTRICT 35 ASSEMBLY; GOP STRONG CONTINUES TO GAIN MOMENTUM

PASSAIC COUNTY – The conservative Republican Organization GOP Strong has announced its candidates for the District 35 Assembly Race, said organization co chairman Michael Ramaglia.

The candidates are Lynn Anne Shortway of Hawthorne and  George Sawey of North Haledon.   Shortway, 28, hails from a renowned Republican family and Sawey is a former North Haledon Councilman. District 35 encompasses Paterson and its immediate suburbs.

“We are excited to have these two great candidates represent GOP Strong and the Republican Party,” said Ramaglia. “This is just another indication that our organization is growing and attracting more and more supporters.”

Shortway a graduate of Wagner College in Staten Island with a degree is sociology and criminal justice. She currently works as an educator in Hawthorne High School and coaches softball and soccer.

Sawey is a member of the North Haledon Planning Board and ethics committee as well as commander of  the local American Legion post.

Shortway and Sawey say they are proud to run with the backing of GOP Strong, which, “is the only organization that seems interested in fighting for Republican values and  helping Republicans win elections this year,” according to Shortway.

The major issue of their campaign said Sawey is state spending. “We are going to fight for the taxpayers of the District who are getting clobbered by Trenton Democrats, their high taxes and never ending spending plans,” he said.

“There is too much  corruption and too much waste in Trenton and we are going to do our best to fight it.”

GOP Strong Co-Chair Michael Mecca said the candidacies of Shortway and Sawey: “are testament to the growing momentum of GOP Strong and recognition of the work we have been doing since October.”

“We are finding more and more Republicans are attracted to our organization because they want to support a group that is energizing voters and taking on the Democrats on the issues that other Republicans are afraid to touch,” said Mecca.

Shortway and Sawey join the GOP Strong ticket, which includes freeholder candidates Bruno Varano, of Wayne, Debra Andriani, of Totowa, and Robert Cruz, of Pompton Lakes; and Kristin Corrado  a Totowa attorney running for county clerk.

Mecca said GOP Strong will continue to seek candidates in other nearby districts who are dedicated to supporting Republican principles.
