Chairman Questions why Shulman Has Not Urged Corrupt Party Boss To Resign
HACKENSACK – Bergen County RepublicanParty Chairman Bob Yudin called on Fifth Congressional District candidate Dennis Shulman to demand that Joseph Ferriero resign as Chairman of the Bergen County Democratic Organization. Joe Ferriero was indicted last week on multiple charges of fraud.
“If Mr. Shulman is to seriously demonstrate his commitment to the people of the Fifth District and to clean government, why then has he not called for the resignation of a corrupt party boss?” asked Yudin.
Shulman is running against Republican incumbent Rep. Scott Garrett.
Chairman Ferriero and Bergen County Democratic Organization legal counsel Dennis Oury were both indicted on September 9 on federal corruption charges. Top Democratic Party figures and elected officials have since called on Ferriero to permanently step down, but so far Ferriero has refused. “At a time when Democratic leaders such as Gov. Jon Corzine and Democratic State Chairman Joseph Cryan have already asked for Ferriero to step aside, I question why Mr. Shulman has not followed suit?” said Yudin.
“Even local Bergen officials such as Congressman Steve Rothman and State Senator Loretta Weinberg have recognized Ferriero’s abuse of power and called for his resignation. With the citizens of Bergen County demanding an end to corruption, when will Dennis Shulman add his voice to the choir?”, added the BCRO chairman.
