YUDIN ISSUES STATEMENT ON FERRIERO DECISION TO STEP DOWN

Bergen County Republican Organization Chairman Robert Yudin issued the following statement today regarding the legal problems of Bergen County Democratic party Chairman Joseph Ferriero and his decision to step down, at least temporarily, from his position as chairman.

“The fact that Joe Ferriero is facing a federal investigation and that he is choosing to step down as chairman of the Democratic Party in Bergen County will have little impact on  the county clerk and county freeholder campaigns this year.  Joe Ferriero is not on the ballot, but freeholders David Ganz, Bernadette McPherson and Vernon Walton are and they have an abysmal record of governing that they must defend separate from Mr. Ferriero’s possible ethical problems.

I don’t think  Joe Ferriero put a gun to David Ganz’s head and told him to vote for $133 million in new spending. I don’t think Joe Ferriero twisted  Bernadette McPherson’s arm and told her to support over $125 million in new borrowing this year or to back the  disastrous EnCap Project.

I don’t think Mr. Ferriero forced Freeholder Walton to vote for this year’s $23 million tax hike. I don’t believe Mr. Ferriero forced Freeholders Ganz and  McPherson to allow the  misuse of  the taxpayer money from the county open space trust fund.

I don’t think Mr. Ferriero threatened Ganz and McPherson and told them to look the other away while the Bergen County Improvement Authority was strong- arming towns to take loans so the agency could pay big fees to consultants to Democratic contributors.

And if Ganz and McPherson did knuckle under to such pressure then shame on them --  they don’t deserve to be freeholders because they put their party boss ahead of the taxpayers.

As chairman of my party, I would never think of demanding that Republican freeholders put the party ahead of taxpayers.

Republicans Chris Calabrese, Jeffrey Heller and Paul Duggan and people of integrity and they are committed to reversing the runaway spending in Bergen County.”
