Chairman Says Former Assemblyman Best Choice For South Bergen Election Battleground
Hackensack – Bergen County Republican Organization Chairman Robert Yudin has announced the appointment of former state Assemblyman Paul DiGaetano as the county coordinator for the entire Republican ticket headed by presumptive GOP presidential candidate John McCain.
In announcing the choice of DiGaetano, who represented southern Bergen County for 16 years in the state legislature, Yudin said: “The best hope for John McCain to win New Jersey is for him to win Bergen County. And the best chance to win Bergen County rests with our ability to work hard and win in South Bergen – not just for John McCain, but for Dick Zimmer and our entire county slate.”
Yudin is a strong supporter of McCain and like the Arizona Senator, he is Viet Nam era veteran and was a U.S. Naval flier at the same time McCain was a Navy pilot. Yudin serves on the McCain finance committee and as vice chair New Jersey veterans for McCain.
“I want to see John McCain win big in Bergen and I think working with individuals such as Paul DiGaetano – who has represented the people of South Bergen for a long time – gives our entire ticket the best chance to win. Paul can deliver South Bergen for John McCain,” said Yudin.
State Sen. Gerald Cardinale (R-39th District) said the selection of DiGaetano was a good one and that he agrees with Yudin’s strategy.
“In District 39, we will work very hard for John McCain and he will win the district. But I know that the real battleground in Bergen County is going to be south of Route 4,” said Cardinale.
“The Republican Party needs a campaign coordinator who can mobilize the party’s base in South Bergen and appeal to the independent voters who are critical to the success of John McCain and the entire Republican ticket,” added Cardinale. “I believe Paul DiGaetano has the ability to do that.”
Also serving on the campaign coordinating committee established by Yudin are District 36 Republican Party Chairman Joseph Crifasi, and District 38 Chairman Richard Miller.
Crifasi of Carlstadt said the choice of DiGateano shows the BCRO chairman’s respect for South Bergen.
“The choice of Paul DiGaetano to be campaign coordinator demonstrates that the county chairman understands not only how important South Bergen is to Republicans, but also shows sensitivity to the issues that are important to the residents of the area,” said Crifasi.
“The people of South Bergen are very concerned about taxes, spending and the impact of big government on our lives,” said Crifasi. “Paul DiGaetano understands that better than anyone.”
Crifasi, a Carlstadt Councilman, said McCain’s ability to win South Bergen depends on embracing the low tax, less government message.“South Bergen residents have been assaulted by government mandates, the EnCap debacle and higher taxes. They will rally around candidates who will fight to get government off their backs.
Paul DiGaetano will undoubtedly be able to mobilize voters for John McCain and the county freeholder ticket,” added Crifasi, a Carlstadt Councilman.
RETURN VISIT
Chairman Yudin said he is hoping McCain will come to back to Bergen County and visit with the people of South Bergen.
“We have issued an open invitation to the McCain campaign in New Jersey to bring John McCain back to Bergen County,” said Yudin
“John McCain represents the values of the hard working people of the area,” said Yudin. “He is without a doubt, the best choice for all of Bergen County.”
