Former Republican Dumped his Party To Protect “Sen. EnCap”
HACKENSACK -- Listening to Lyndhurst Mayor Richard DiLascio’s complaints being mistreated by the EnCap developer is a little like hearing Benedict Arnold complain about his treatment by the British after he betrayed America, says Bergen County Republican Chairman Robert Yudin.
DiLascio last week was caught complaining to the local media that the deal he thought he had with EnCap to construct a middle school is falling through as the company goes bankrupt. He said the borough needs the school EnCap promised to build. DiLascio is the former Republican who jumped to the Democratic Party last year after he objected to the Bergen County Republicans efforts to back Mike Guarino to run against DiLascio’s political ally, Democratic State Sen. Paul Sarlo (D-Wood-Ridge) who has been one of the biggest boosters of EnCap on the state level.
“Mayor DiLascio has shown extremely poor judgment by flip flopping on the EnCap issue and incredibly poor judgment by jumping ship and climbing into bed with the people most responsible for perpetrating the EnCap fraud on the people of South Bergen and the taxpayers of New Jersey,” said Yudin.
“Mr. DiLascio unfortunately put his political career ahead of his constituents by switching parties to protect Sen. Sarlo, who is one of the people most responsible for inflicting the EnCap debacle upon us,” added Yudin.
DiLascio ran as a Republican candidate for the New Jersey General Assembly and as mayor opposing the EnCap project. Once elected mayor, he began negotiating with EnCap for amenities that are likely to never be delivered to the community.
“Had the mayor stayed with the Republican Party in Bergen County that has been hammering on the EnCap issue for five years, Mr. DiLascio would have been in a better position to represent his community and help stop the EnCap project,” said Yudin.
“To hear him complain now that EnCap isn’t living up to its bargains is laughable. What did he expect from EnCap?” asked Yudin.
