Hatfield Urges Congress to Approve FISASelf Imposed Deadline Fast Approaches
Summit – Today Dr. P. Kelly Hatfield, Republican Candidate for New Jersey’s Seventh Congressional District again urged Congress to move forward with approving legislation which would assist US Intelligence Professionals with the ability to protect Americans here at home.
Five years ago last week the Department of Homeland Security was established by merging 22 different government organizations into a single department with the mission to protect our homeland. Hatfield pointed to increased funding for equipment and training of local first responders, work being done to protect our transportation systems as well as steps being taken to protect Americans from a bioterrorist attack and strengthening our defense against cyber attacks which could spread quickly and cripple our economy.
“Though much as been accomplished, our work is far from done”, Dr. Hatfield said, “We cannot allow ourselves to let our guard down”. Hatfield believes that it is vitally important that Congress move forward with passing the Federal Intelligence Surveillance Act, FISA, a bill that passed in the Senate by a bipartisan majority last month. “It was bad enough that they let the legislation expire while they recessed but now their self imposed deadline is approaching this Saturday and they are still tiptoeing around. In these days of high tech communications we need to supply our intelligence professionals with the tools that are necessary so that we know instantly who the terrorists are talking to, what they are talking about and what they are planning,” she stated.
According to Dr. Hatfield time is of the essence and “as long as the terrorists are still out there they pose a threat to American’s here on our own soil. Our legislators cannot allow their differences to get in the way of providing the Department of Homeland Security with what they need to do their job of keeping America safe”.
Dr. P. Kelly Hatfield possess a proven track record of successful public service advocating for lower taxes by cutting government waste, balancing budgets and supporting small businesses as they grow and create jobs to strengthen the economy.
