Senator Sean Kean, R-Monmouth, said Governor Corzine should use a small portion of the $700 million plus collected from the tax amnesty program to restore funding for the arts, shore protection and the training of volunteer emergency medical technicians.
"Property relief should be the governor's first priority, but other worthy programs shouldn't be ignored now that money is available," Senator Kean said. "Fully funding these programs would cost only $21 million."
Governor Corzine today said today that the tax amnesty program would bring in at least $700 million. Original estimates were the amnesty would generate only $200 million.
"The arts, EMT training and shore protection greatly improve the quality of life of middle-class New Jersey," Kean said. "These programs should never have been cut because they more than pay for themselves. Now we have the money to correct our mistake."
