Karrow Bill Allowing 16 Year Olds to Save Lives Becomes Law

Senator Marcia Karrow, R-Warren and Hunterdon, issued the following statement after the governor signed Assembly Bill 3580 into law. Senator Karrow introduced this legislation while she was a member of the Assembly. It allows 16 year olds in good health to donate blood if their parents consent. The bill passed unanimously in both the Senate and the Assembly.

"I am gratified by the unanimous, bipartisan support for this measure," Senator Karrow said. "It will save lives, ease suffering and encourage public service by our youth.

"This law is a big step toward insuring that New Jersey has the blood supply it needs to protect the health of every citizen in need," Senator Karrow said. "It's a giant step toward the goal of encouraging young people to contribute to society. It shows our confidence that young adults will work to create a better New Jersey for themselves and their children."
