Bucco and Malone Call on Governor Corzine, Treasurer to Release January Revenue Figures

Senate Republican Budget Officer Anthony Bucco and Assembly Republican Budget Officer Joseph Malone sent a letter today to Governor Jon Corzine and state Treasurer David Rousseau urging them not to delay the release of January's revenue figures until the budget address, which is now scheduled for March 10. Their request comes amid reports that the $2.1 billion deficit estimated for this current budget year grew by $500 million or more in January.

"New Jersey is likely to face the biggest budget deficit in its history next year," Malone and Bucco said. "Crucial decisions on where to put dwindling state resources are about to be made.

"As a representative democracy, those decisions should be reached with the input of an informed electorate. We urge the governor and the treasurer to release January revenue collection figures as soon as they are available. The public should have the facts before them as we begin a historical debate about the future of New Jersey."
