Kyrillos Urges Corzine to Attack Joblessness With Bipartisan Solutions
By Andrew PrattResponding to reports from Washington of growing unemployment, Senator Joseph Kyrillos implored Governor Corzine to work with Republicans and Democrats to further eliminate taxes and regulations that are slowing state job growth.
The impact of the national economic decline has been high in New Jersey because of high taxes, overregulation and out-of-control government spending and borrowing. National surveys rank New Jersey's business climate at or near the bottom among states, crippling our ability to lure businesses and jobs. The governor must work to change these job-killing policies.
Democratic legislators must join Republicans in an effort to push these necessary economic reforms:
Suspend and structurally overhaul a job-crushing COAH/subsidized housing law that is stifling development here in New Jersey.
Bring structural balance back to New Jersey's budget by making responsible, common sense spending restraints proposed by members of both parties that make up for revenue losses without relying on tax hikes.
Continue rolling back hundreds of anti-business taxes and regulations enacted over the past 6 years.
"Poorly conceived regulations and punitive taxation have almost ruined New Jersey's business climate," Kyrillos said. "Unless Governor Corzine addresses past mistakes, business leaders will continue to see no reason to create jobs here in New Jersey."
