MCKEON WELCOMES JACKSON'S CONFIRMATION TO EPA
(TRENTON, N.J.) - Assemblyman John F. McKeon today welcomed the U.S. Senate's confirmation of Lisa Jackson to head the Environmental Protection Agency.
"Lisa's passion for the environment and pragmatic approach equip her to effectively advance President Barack Obama's plans for a viable energy economy powered by wind, solar and other renewable energies that would help preserve and protect the environment and generate millions of green jobs," said McKeon (D-Essex), chairman of the Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee.
"I expect the environment to be a top priority under the Obama administration. Lisa is exactly the person President Obama needs in his Cabinet to help advance his environmental agenda forward."
In a Dec. 5 letter to President-elect Obama backing Jackson's nomination for EPA Administrator, McKeon called her "passionate about the environment while being sensitive to the needs of business." He lauded her "fair-minded and practical" approach to problems that made her an ideal candidate for the country's top environmental job.
McKeon worked closely with Jackson when she was commissioner of New Jersey's Department of Environmental Protection on several environmental initiatives. These included open space preservation, site remediation and implementation of the state's landmark Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act.
"Lisa Jackson's bold and visionary leadership has helped transform New Jersey's environmental landscape through innovative and forward-thinking policies," said McKeon. "Her 16-year track record of working for the EPA gives her an insider's advantage. I look forward to supporting her leadership at the federal level to advance the country's environmental agenda forward and constructing an alternative energy economy."
