MCKEON TO OBAMA: JACKSON EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR EPA TO MOVE FORWARD COUNTRY'S ENVIRONMENTAL AGENDA
In a letter to President-elect Barack Obama, Assemblyman John F. McKeon today recommended Lisa P. Jackson for the post of EPA administrator in the Obama administration stating she would be an excellent choice to move forward the country's environmental agenda.
Jackson, reported to be a top contender to head the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), was appointed in November to serve on the Obama energy and natural resources transition team. In October, she was named Chief of Staff to Governor Jon S. Corzine after serving as commissioner of New Jersey's Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) since February 2006.
McKeon (D-Essex) wrote the following in his letter to President-elect Obama:
"Lisa Jackson's bold and visionary leadership has helped transform New Jersey's environmental landscape with innovative and forward-thinking policies in key areas such as climate change, renewable energy, hazardous site remediation and ocean protection.
"Lisa shares your vision for the environment. As a member of the board of directors of the ten state compact of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, she was in the forefront of efforts for New Jersey to become one of the first states in the nation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with an innovative cap and trade program.
"Having worked for 16 years for the EPA, she would have an insider's advantage in moving your environmental agenda forward and commanding her team.
"As chair of the Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee in New Jersey, I have had the opportunity to work closely with Lisa on a number of pro-environment initiatives including open space, site remediation and the landmark Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act that I authored and which was implemented by regulatory standards crafted under her leadership.
"Lisa is passionate about the environment while being fair-minded and practical and sensitive to the needs of business. Her experience and expertise make her an ideal candidate to implement your plans to power an alternative economy with renewable and clean energy that would generate millions of green jobs and to help protect, preserve and enhance our planet's environment for present and future generations."
