ASSEMBLY ENVIRONMENT CHAIR WELCOMES NEW DEP APPOINTMENT

ASSEMBLY ENVIRONMENT CHAIR WELCOMES NEW DEP APPOINTMENT

Assemblyman John F. McKeon, chair of the Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee welcomed Governor Jon S. Corzine's appointment of Mark Mauriello as the commissioner of New Jersey's Department of Environment Protection.

McKeon issued the following statement:

"As a 28-year veteran of the DEP, Mark has the background, experience and skills to continue the department's sound policies of protecting and preserving our state's valuable environmental and natural resources.

"As chair of the Assembly Environment committee, I have enjoyed an excellent relationship with Lisa Jackson, former DEP Chief, who worked tirelessly to safeguard our state's environment, including supporting pro-environment legislative initiatives.

"I look forward to working with Mark on our shared goals of protecting and preserving New Jersey's dwindling open space for our present and future generations.

Though we have made great strides in recent years, many significant environmental challenges remain. We must continue to address them in a collaborative fashion."
