Ex-Jersey City Mayor now leads in school board race

Former Jersey City Mayor Gerald McCann, who was forced to vacate his office in 1992 following his criminal conviction, lost narrowly leads in his bid for a political comeback in a race for the Jersey City Board of Education election.  He trailed Jenny Garcia by 53 votes on the machine count, but leads by 25 votes after absentee ballots were counted. The top votegetter was Terry Dehere, 35, who played for three NBA teams between 1993 and 1999. Incumbent Angel Valentin was re-elected.

And thus ends the attempted

And thus ends the attempted rehabilitation of Gerry McCann by Lou Manzo. Manzo couldn't get rid of him so they tried to clean him up. Hoping every time the papers would print his name it might read "school board member"instead of "convicted felon".Healy must be laughing all the way to the Astor Bar.

Jerry Does it with those damn absentees

No one works absentees like Jerry McCann. He usually gets them for other candidates now he's finally made them work for him. Now that he's won a school board election position, what will be next? Committeeman?

Wait . . . I have some absentees in the trunk!

McCann learned from the masters, Peter and Joe Mocco are the undisputed Hudson County kings of the absentee ballot.

And the all time best Richard J. Daley Sr!

i think the election of Gerald McCann will shake up the Board of Ed in jersey city.  I think people should see what he brings to the table before burying his ideas. Remember we only replaced one set of politicians (city) for another (State) with the takeover, who are we kidding?
