Kate Whitman, the daughter of former Gov. Christie Whitman, is considering running for Congress. But she wants the public to know that she does not feel any sense of entitlement.
"I don't think just because my last name is Whitman I'm entitled to anything. I'll work just as hard if not harder than anyone else for this," said the 30-year-old Whitman, who has worked as a congressional staffer, for the U.S. Department of Labor, and the New Hampshire Republican Party. She is the Executive Director of the Republican Leadership Council, which her mother co-chairs.
She said that her lack of experience as an elected official isn't necessarily detrimental.
"Maybe it's time we need someone with a little bit of a different perspective. Some people may say that I should have municipal experience and that's their opinion," said Whitman.
She also said that being the mother twin boys makes her care even more about the district.
"I have twin sons who are two and a half years old. I truly care about New Jersey and this district, and having grown up here I care about the future of it not only for my children but the future of the district. I think I bring a fresh perspective," said Whitman. "I'm by no means announcing anything, but I'm definitely talking to people about it."
Whitman said that she can help change the tone of the partisan debate in Washington - that both parties need to "return to civility."

Entitlement for the elite.
Is this woman for real?
The only reason she is even being mentioned for anything, much less a seat in congress is because of her last name. If her name was Kate Smith, who would care if she was running?
To suggest that her last name is the only reason her candidacy is legitimate at the age of 30 is less than honest.
Right.
No special treatment?
Yea, right.
Does she really think anyone would be interested if she wasn't for former governor's daughter?
She needs to wait her turn and first run and get elected to a municipal office to prove herself.
And regarding her twins (she mentioned them), how much you want to bet they're raised by a nanny.
Yet another blue blood patrician who never needed to worry about earning a paycheck to pay the mortgage or feed the kids. Christ.
Kate Smith?
If her name was Kate Smith we should ask her to sing God Bless America!
'Kate Whitman for Congress' - Is This A Joke?
'Kate Whitman for Congress', what is this some kind of joke?
Candidates for Congress should know how a tollbooth works. Please note that I am NOT referring to operating a tollbooth, I am referring to going through one. You know, that Einsteinian endeavor whereby you stop your car and give the guy in the booth the ticket and a few bucks.
Apparently this is an ability that Kate never mastered.
Kate should seek out alternative employment commensurate with her skill set.
"Hello, I'm Kate Whitman. Welcome to Wal-Mart."
BWWAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAAA
Does she realize most New Jerseans don't even like her mother??? Those coat tails won't take her too far. Start with School Board
What a crock!!
She has the name and is exploiting it like Tom Kean Jr. Neither are even Republicans which is why we have the NJ Blues. Kate should run as a Democrat.
Mommy Dearest will clear out all the competition for baby Kate, just like Daddy Kean did for baby Kean.
Just what New Jersey needs, another Silver Spoon. If this is allowed to continue, New Jersey needs a third party!!
"Sometimes it looks as if the Democrats are out to win at all costs, while the Republicans are out to compromise at all costs." Thomas Sowell, September 8, 2007 - Random Thoughts.
Hard Worker
Kate's last name may have gotten her an interview or two, but it certainly DIDN'T get her hired. Especially by, arguably, the brightest member of the US Congress - Chris Cox.
And anyone who says she hasn't balanced a budget or worked in the private sector, clearly has never been a mother of twins and run a household. Not to mention, she has also owned her own business for last three years.
How quickly she forgets...

I enjoyed the experience,” Whitman said after the first round of balloting produced Sordillo and Walsh. “A lot of people seem to think you need municipal experience.”
She suggested she might try that first before pursing a Freeholder seat.
A short cut
I can understand responses to the above story and had the same initial response as the above commenter’s. However, after some though it seems we are missing what is really going on here. The Congressional run is merely a way of getting Kate Whitman’s name out to the public for a future run for a lower political position. At first glance Whitman looks like she is trying to “buck the system” or “cut in line” by not paying her dues which rank and file republicans in her district probably don’t like. However, this strategy worked exceeding well for Assemblyman-elect Jay Weber in his former unsuccessful run for state Senate against the parties incumbent.
Silly me, Nwk_Pat_Att, I took Kate at her word
So now that Kate has seen the tsunami of indignation rising up to meet her as she ventures out into the political seas, someone serendipitously comes along to attempt to spin this whole exercise in self-indulgence as a "Webber-esque" gambit to establish name recognition for the lower office she truly covets (as if her last name didn't afford her a Herculean advantage in this regard already).
Interesting.
On another note, comparing Kate Whitman to Jay Webber in any way, shape or form is like comparing Slim Whitman to Jimi Hendrix.
