Estabrook doesn’t get automatic nod from Gloucester GOP
By Matt Friedman, PolitickerNJ.com ReporterGloucester County Republican Chairwoman Loran Oglesby may back Anne Evans Estabrook for U.S. Senate, but Estabrook won’t automatically get the party line there.
This week, the local party’s steering committee voted to endorse a slate of Freeholder candidates they won’t yet name, Rep. Frank LoBiondo for reelection in the second district and Republican long-shot Dale Glading to take on incumbent Democrat Rob Andrews in the first congressional district. But the committee couldn’t come to the necessary 5-2 majority to endorse a candidate for U.S. Senate.
Instead, the county committee will vote on its Senate pick at a convention.
“We decided as a committee that all three candidates really had a lot to offer and felt that they would all make excellent Senators,” said Gloucester GOP Executive Director Jeff Morris, who said that Oglesby’s endorsement of Estabrook was not made in an official capacity.
