LIVINGSTON, NJ -In response to the withdrawal of a controversial bond scheme from West Orange’s $250 million downtown development plan last week as highlighted in yesterday's Star Ledger, Barry Funt, Assembly candidate from New Jersey’s 27th district said the the following:

“I'm proud of the citizens who stood up to put an end to reckless government borrowing. What we are witnessing throughout the nation are regular citizens standing up to entrenched and self interested politicians like John McKeon to take their government back. I stand with the people in West Orange and the rest of the 27th district in demanding responsible and limited government.”

“McKeon's decision to postpone this important decision until after his Assembly election illustrates the conflicts of interest inherent in holding two elected offices. The Edison Village debacle was caused in part by decisions made by Mr. McKeon back in 2006. West Orange citizens have the right to demand that while he is still their Mayor, he spend sufficient time to try to fix the mess he created without burdening them anymore than he already has. Based on the public uprising against his bond scheme, he has decided not to kill the measure as the people have demanded, but to postpone it to focus on his re-election for Assembly. Once again, Mr. McKeon puts his own personal interests ahead of the people he is supposed to represent.”
