From an upset win on a Town council in NJ to reelecting the youngest Secretary of State in Kentucky history, the RLC made a difference on election day yesterday. As in past years, the RLC did not just endorse safe incumbents - we supported candidates in tough races all across the country. In some of the closest races from Maine to Washington, RLC-endorsed candidates were big winners last night. I am especially proud of our New Jersey candidates who achieved great victories across the state. Assemblywoman Jennifer Beck defeated an incumbent Democratic Senator – the first time this has happened in a decade. Six of our eight candidates for State Assembly won - several winning seats previously held by Democrats.
Overall, I was particularly pleased at the thoughtfulness that voters demonstrated yesterday. For the first time in two decades, voters in New Jersey voted down certain specific bond issues, highlighting both citizens' concern for getting our fiscal house in order and their attention to the issues. Throughout the country Republican voters in particular demonstrated this type of sound judgment in looking past rhetoric: voting out Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher after his questionable ethical issues despite his socially conservative messages and reelecting Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour because of his strong work after Hurricane Katrina despite his opponent's appeal to the religious right. This is the kind of thoughtful and informed voting that our nation desperately needs. Now it is up to those who were elected to uphold the decisions of the voters.

RLC?
Not all of us follow the organizations you belong to. You might want to tell us what the RLC is instead of just assuming we know.
Republican Liars Club???
Rich Ladies Committee? Raving Lunatics Council??
R u kidding me?
Didn't the Republican Gov. in KY lose? Who cares about the Sec. of State. Beck's district leans Rep. & oh yeah, the Dems picked up a seat in the Senate. Nice spin Christy!
RINO Lead-ship Committee
Hey Chritie Whitperson,
I't is not your party!! Your RINO Lead-ship Committee is sinking the Republican Party.
You are responsible for losing New Jersey, turning it blue. You set the prescedent for borrowing that has made New Jersey the highest debtor per capita state in the Nation. Your spending record would have made Florio blush. You made New Jersey the partial-birth abortion capital, and vetoed the ban on partial-birth abortion twice. You put in the most radical Supreme Court in the Nation in place that sustaind your partial birth abortion veto; that usurped the legislature's authority reducing our government to 2 branches, it ordered unconstitutional spending, authorized unconstitutional borrowing; it even tried to force to Boy Scouts to accept gay troop leaders and give them the Right to take little boys away from their parents on overnight camping trips. So, keep thinking you are Republican, it will validate your insanity defense in a fraud trial.
Here's a suggestion, you can become a Democrat without having to compromise on a single principle, so do everyone a favor and change parties.

It will not be the old republicans anymore!
The RLC is nothing! In the future a new breed is out to represent the people, not special interests. We will run the agenda that "less government and less spending means more freedom". A return to the ideals of Reagan is long over due in this state. Chrissy, get out of the way, the train is coming through and you and your kind do not have a ticket.

Getting their fiscal house in order ...
... ironic words from the person who threw the fiscal equivalent of a toga party to create said disorder in the first place.
How typical of you country-clubbers to take credit for the toil and sweat of candidates, staffers, volunteers, local chairs, committee men and women, on down the line. You toss a little cash at something and think it made a difference. Take Beck's victory for example. Outspent 6 to 1 she still triumphed. When will you silver spoons ever get it through your heads that consistently exhibiting character in both action and ideology is the hallmark of true political success.
The Ideals of Reagan? Hah!
He ran up deficits not seen until the idiot boy in chief we have now. Explain how that means fiscal responsibility?
Ebmd
The President has no control over the budget, but in NJ the Governor has plenty. The deficit that Reagan ran up was the work of the Democrat Congress. He only enjoyed a short 2 year majority in the Senate, but no majority in the House for his 8 year term.

Descretion Spending
Reagan had the lowest descretion spending (not medicare, social security, etc.) of any president in his century. Get rid of the idiots like Kennedy and you will see the spending go down fast!
Your bring up the majority in both houses is one of the reasons that I am no longer an active republican. Starting in 2000 we had it all, and we blew it. The current crop are a bunch of cowards!

Rich,
Why single out Kennedy? Just paise the good Senators. Oh, sorry, I forgot; there are no good ones. How about a 1 term limit in the Senate?

PS - Byrd's Pork would make even Kennedy blush. He still piles up the pork even though he can't find the bathroom.

I concur with the above
I concur with the above comments. I am a Democrat and it is apparent to me that you're a flaming liberal. I don't really care about your ideological views or 'It's my party too and I'll cry if I want to." You are on my border of irrelevance and outright contempt. One thing I would like to know is the basis for your comments regarding the brave workers at Ground Zero. Do you have any shame about what occurred or is that trumped by your concern about the success of the Republicans in Kentucky?
State Debt
I agree that Christine Todd Whitman is at least partially responsible for the unprecedented debt that New Jersey faces. She also placed the State Pension system in jeopardy by investing the funds on Wall Street. She is more responsible for the shape we're in than anyone.
Republican Conscience
You are so right about Bryd, but he does not need the bathroom now that he wears a diaper. About the only senators who do not get any pork are the idiots that represent New Jersey.
Term limits sounds great and I support them, but remember the great contract with america? Newt and boys promised that, and again, it never happened. And if I remember right, Ferguson was one of the ones that promised to limit himself to only 2 or 3 terms. Of course when the time came to keep the promise, he said forget it!
It is about time someone grab the Reagan banner and start a revolution in this state, before the bankruptcy sign goes up!

What's a Christie Whitman?
Humph, never saw these comments before. Two things. one, why would anyone care what Christie Whitman has to say about anything? Two, why does this site waste the space to give her a forum? By the same token why is Mr, Ethics, Bob Torricelli here. Is this the political losers site or did I miss something?
