Corzine thinks Ferriero should resign

Gov. Jon Corzine thinks that Bergen County Democratic Chairman Joseph Ferriero should step down from his party post and his job as Counsel to the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission after his indictment this week on federal corruption charges, according to his spokesman.

"Governor Corzine has been consistent and clear in how he feels about political figures under indictment. They should step aside," Sean Darcy, Corzine's press secretary, told PolitickerNJ.com. Last year, Corzine sought the resignation of two Democratic Assemblymen who had been arrested on corruption charges.

Democratic State Chairman Joseph Cryan sought Ferriero's resignation today, along with State Sen. Loretta Weinberg (D-Teaneck).  U.S. Rep. Steven Rothman (D-Fair Lawn) said on Tuesday that Ferriero should vacate his post.

Weinberg, Assemblyman Gordon Johnson (D-Englewood), and Assemblywoman Valerie Huttle (D-Englewood) today asked District 37 Democratic Chairman Ralph Rivera to call a meeting of County Committee members so that they cna "have a voice in the process going forward."

"We hope you will call this meeting as soon as possible to address their concerns. Please be assured that if you choose not to call this meeting, we will call this meeting ourselves," the three legislators wrote Rivera.
