Jury selection begins today in the trial of former Assemblyman Daniel Van Pelt (R-Ocean Township), who is charged with a accepting a $10,000 bribe from a cooperating witness believed to be Solomon Dwek.  The U.S. government alleges the Van Pelt agreed to the payment to help with his official assistant on real estate matters dealing with state government and in Ocean Township, where he had served as mayor.  Van Pelt resigned his Assembly seat following his arrest last July, and was also tossed from his post as Lumberton Administrator.
