The Senate Judiciary Committee has scheduled an early hearing on the confirmation of Attorney General-designate Paula Dow, who was nominated this week by Gov.-elect Christopher Christie.  The panel wants to interview Dow on January 6, two weeks before Christie takes office, so that they can be positioned for a speedy confirmation once Christie formally submits Dow's nomination.

"I've discussed this approach with the incoming Judiciary Chairman and our intention is to hold a hearing to thoroughly vet Paula Dow's nomination before the current legislative session ends," said State Sen. Paul Sarlo (D-Wood-Ridge), the committee chairman. "With the vetting process completed, the Judiciary Committee can reconvene simply to vote after her nomination is formally submitted by Governor Christie. This will help expedite the process so that this important post is filled as quickly as possible."

Next year, Sarlo will chair the Senate Appropriations Committee and Nicholas Scutari (D-Linden) will chair Judiciary.

"Given the weighty responsibilities held by the Attorney General, this is a post that deserves our immediate attention," said Senate President Richard Codey (D-Roseland).
