Rasmussen poll: Christie 46%, Corzine 43%, Daggett 7%

Former U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie leads Gov. Jon Corzine 46%-43% -- a statistical dead heat -- with independent Christopher Daggett dropping to 7%, according to a new Rasmussen Reports poll released today.

Last week, Rasmussen had Christie ahead 41%-39%, with Daggett at 11%.

“The decline in support for Daggett comes in a week when several state newspapers endorsed Christie or Corzine, but none followed the Star-Ledger’s lead and came out in favor of the independent candidate,” Rasmussen said.  “Additionally, Christie began a new ad campaign linking Corzine and Daggett.”

Corzine’s favorables are still upside-down, 41%-57%, the same as last week.  Christie is also around the same, 49%-49%.  40% of likely voters have a “very unfavorable” view of Corzine; for Christie, it’s 27%. Christie's favorables are even, while Corzine is at -16.

Daggett, a former state Commissioner of Environmental Protection, has favorables of 42%-40%.  His unfavorables are up eight points since last week and thirteen points over the last two weeks.

Christie has an eight-point lead among voters who say they are certain to vote and his supporters are less likely to change their minds, the poll says.  Corzine does better among registered voters who are less likely to turnout – which may be why President Obama and former President Bill Clinton are returning to New Jersey for the second time in as many weeks.

“At this point, there is no possible way to project what will happen on Election Day,” Rasmussen said.  “The Democrats clearly have an edge in New Jersey when it comes to getting out the vote, which is one reason no Republican has won a statewide race in New Jersey since 1997. It's also impossible to know how much support Daggett will retain.”

"About the only thing certain in New Jersey at the moment is that the next governor will be someone that is disliked by at least half the state," Rasmussen said.

Most Accurate

Rasmussen, for whatever the reason has been the most consistantly accurate over the years. I believe this poll. I believe that Daggett voters are slowly peeling away toward Christie. I believe that both Corzine and Daggett hit their high water marks about a week ago and that if Rasmussen does another poll before Election Day it will show Christie stretching his margin. I also believe that if Corzine cannot break 43% on Election Day, it is possible for the GOP to pick off enough Assembly seats (1,4,14,22,36) to take back the majority.

robo poll

Rassmussen is an automated poll and doesn't lend itself to the biases of say the NYT poll, which inexplicably had Corzine up by 3.

Asking at work

The Daggett people are going back to Christie. Summiteer is right that the biggest surprise may very well be a GOP legislative majority come next Tuesday. Most Daggett voters will likely vote for Republican Assembly candidates.

Fox News: Poll was fudged

Fox news (Neil Cavuto) reported in the poll Daggett actually polled at 14% and final numbers where statistically adjusted to reflect 1/2 of independents don't show up to vote.

I wonder what the real numbers where for Corzine and Christie

Don't forget this is GOP poll and at end of day polls are only used to influence election.

If you're afraid that a vote for Daggett is a Vote for Corzine, don't be because the polls show Daggett is hurting Corzine and putting Christie ahead.

See this Daggett Hurts Corzine and Helps Christie

You can be sure that you don't waste your vote by making the I'll vote for Dagget pledge.

The Daggett pledge is based on a simple premise, if enough people pledge their vote then you will vote for Daggett

Pretty much sums it up!

Kung Fu Panda and the NJ Governor's Race

Has anyone noticed the striking similarity between the New Jersey Gubernatorial race and the movie Kung Fu Panda?

Think about this, the land is our state of New Jersey. The Five represent the five sections of New Jersey, the north east Bergen area (Master Tigress), North West Sussex area, (Master Monkey) South west Camden area (Master Viper), South east Monmouth Area (Master Crane) and Central Trenton (Master Mantis).

Master Oogway (the turtle) represents ethics which are expected in politics and the foundation of government. Master Shifu (the red panda) represents authority and responsibility.

Tai Lung (the snow leopard) (Jon Corzine), the supposed natural fulfillment of the Dragon Warrior (leader). He was told all his life that he was meant to be the Dragon Warrior, but in the end it was not to be. Tai Lung became angry and used his raw power to try to take the Dragon Scroll from the temple.

Out in the village is a talented dutiful Panda named Po (Chris Christie) who Master Oogway predicted to be the Dragon Warrior even before he learned Kung Fu. Po trained with Master Shifu and reads from the Dragon Scoll which is blank(?). Ah, but that is only what it appears to be to the unlearned. Chris Christie, despite having a plan, is accused by Jon Corzine of having none.

I haven’t quite figured out who Daggett is except maybe Zeng, the Messenger Duck, a minor character only in the story for transition.

In the end, Tai Lung and Po have a monumental battle to determine who exactly is the Dragon Warrior. Keep inmind the dialog at the end:

(Tai Lung is severely battered after being belly-bumped by Po and crashing through the ground like in many a classic cartoon)
Tai Lung: (weakly) You...can't defeat me! You....you're just a big...fat...panda! (Po pinches his finger)
Po: I'm not a big, fat panda. I'm the big, fat panda. (he lifts up his pinky finger)
Tai Lung: (gasps) The Wuxi Finger Hold!
Po: Oh, you know this hold?
Tai Lung: You're bluffing. You're bluffing! Shifu didn't teach you that!
Po: Nope. I figured it out. (Po then flexes his pinky finger, with Tai Lung's eyes widening in a "uh-oh" stare) Ska-doosh! (Unleashes a rippling wave of light that vanquishes Tai Lung)

November 3, 2009- Ska-doosh!
