Asbury Park Press endorses Christie

The Asbury Park Press today endorsed Republican Christopher Christie, the former United States Attorney, for Governor.

"We we believe he will work diligently to contain government spending at all levels of government. We believe he will work aggressively to bring public employee salaries and benefits under control. We believe he will take the steps necessary to make New Jersey attractive to businesses again and set the stage for the creation of private-sector jobs. And we are confident he will continue to fight political corruption as vigorously as governor as he did as U.S. Attorney," the editorial said.

The APP says that Gov. Jon "Corzine has done nothing to warrant re-election. In many areas he has left the state in worse shape than when he found it."

"Independent Chris Daggett, who has become the darling of the disaffected, is not a viable alternative," the APP wrote.  "Despite his delusional claims, he has no chance of winning. A vote for him is, in essence, a vote for Corzine."

Not a convincing endorsement

If you have read the NY Times of the Philadelphia Inquirer endorsement of Jon Corzine you have seen the negative, anything but the other guy endorsement.

But just when you think an newspaper endorsement can't be any more less supportive of their candidate, today the Asbury Park Press endorsed Chris Christie with an endorsement even worse then the Times and Inquirer endorsments.

Christie has run a disappointing campaign. He has made himself vulnerable on a number of ethics-related issues. He has provided no specific plan for property tax relief. He says he will balance the budget with a projected $8 billion to $10 billion deficit next year while reducing income taxes, corporate taxes and estate taxes. We're highly skeptical of his ability to do so.

Christie has run a poor campaign. He has failed to tap into the deep dissatisfaction with New Jersey's sky-high property taxes by offering a coherent plan to address the problem. Voters are disenchanted with Corzine and Christie. But that shouldn't obscure the sharp philosophical differences between the two. Daggett says Democrats and Republicans alike are responsible for the state's troubles. There is some truth to that. But for the past eight years, the blame rests squarely with the Democrats.

Instead of telling us why we should vote for Christie, the majority of the endorsement focuses on why we shouldn't vote for Corzine. Well if you live in NJ then you already new that, we don't need newspaper to tell us that.

Daggett still wins the newspaper endorsement count, with NJ newspapers Daggett 16, Christie 3 and Corzine 1.

Further, the newspapers endorsing Christie and Corzine give us nothing more than our candidate sucks but the other guy is worse.

The endorsement even cites a review of Daggett's tax plan by a republican politician, totally ignoring the Associated Press independent economists review of the candidates tax plans that says Daggett's plan is the best and contradicts the statements in the Asbury Park Press endorsement.

In typical GOP fashion, the endorsement continues to spread the fear mongering a vote for Daggett is a vote for Corzine and the GOP lies that Daggett's plan will raise taxes.

Vote Daggett!! Say no more to politics as usual. Break the Cycle.

Suprised they didn't call Daggett a racist

Why not...

That's the lie 101.5 fm is spreading about Daggett

Daggett cannot Win

Throwing your vote away on Daggett is not the right way to get rid of Jon Corzine. Christie can control government spending and lower our taxes. Thats enough for me. I may actually renew my subscription to the Press for their highly intelligent endorsement of Chris Christie.

Newspaper endorsements by candidate

Daggett Will Win!

Corzine:

  1. The Record
  2. NY Times (New York)
  3. Philadelphia Inquirer (PA)

Christie:

  1. Home News Tribune
  2. Courier News
  3. Asbury Park Press

Daggett:

  1. The Star Ledger
  2. The Bernardsville News
  3. Cedar Grove Observer Grove
  4. Verona Observers

  11. Madison Eagle
  12. Morris NewsBee
  13. Mt. Olive Chronicle

So for NJ newspapers Corzine 1,Christie 3 and Daggett 16.

Also the papers endorsing Daggett (except the Star-Ledger) endorsed Christie in the Republican Primary but rescinded the endorsement.

It may be hard to ignore the negative advertisements but when you have all of those newspapers endorsing Daggett that should tell voters something.

If you're afraid that a vote for Daggett is a Vote for Corzine, don't be because the polls show Daggett is hurting Corzine and putting Christie ahead.

See this Daggett Hurts Corzine and Helps Christie

You can be sure that you don't waste your vote by making the I'll vote for Dagget pledge.

The Daggett pledge is based on a simple premise, if enough people pledge their vote then you will vote for Daggett
