Mother of Sen. Robert Menendez dies

Evangelina Menendez, who fled Cuba in search of democracy and economic opportunity and watched her son become a United States Senator, died last night. Mrs. Menendez and her husband, Mario, fled Cuba in 1953 and worked as a seamstress while raising her family in Union City.

A viewing for Mrs. Menendez, the mother of Sen. Robert Menendez (D-Hoboken) will be held on Monday from 2-4 PM and from 7-9 PM at the Leber Funeral Home in Union City.  A funeral will be held at 11AM on Tuesday.  In lieu of flowers, the Menendez family is asking for contributions to the Alzheimer's Association of Greater New Jersey, 400 Morris Avenue, Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834.
