Former Bogota Mayor Steven Lonegan says that today’s conviction of former Bergen County Democratic Chairman Joseph Ferriero is another reason to defeat a $400 million open space bond issue up for voter approval in November.
“This is just another example of how liberal big government programs like the open space scam are breeding grounds for political corruption,” Lonegan said.
The referendum seeks authorization to issue bonds for Green Acres, water supply and floodplain protection, and for farmland and historic preservation projects.
According to federal prosecutors, Ferriero used his political clout to help Bergenfield win grants and loans worth about $2.8 million that came from state Green Acres and historic preservation bond issues. A grants writing firm owned partly by Ferriero received $128,625 in fees for securing those funds.
A Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey poll released this week has the ballot initiative leading by 23 percentage points among likely voters. Gov. Jon Corzine and independent Christopher Daggett back the public question, while Republican Christopher Christie says taxpayers can’t afford it this year.
In 2007, Lonegan led the statewide effort to reject three ballot initiatives backed by Corzine.

Go Lonegen way to alienate your supports and try to get them to support Christie.
It's not going to happen, Christie is way to corrupt.
In real news... Daggett Breaks 20% in latest Poll. He will have a Major impact on an election.
The 20% threshold represents a psychological barrier and breaking that barrier gives Daggett a chance to win the election.
http://njelection.wordpress.com/2009/10/22/daggett-breaks-20-in-latest-p...
Daggett breaks Once the voters who want Corzine out of office realize that Chris Christie’s ship is sinking faster than the Titanic we are likely to see a mass migration of voters from the Christie camp to the Daggett camp. Recent news about Christie includes a possible Christie Affair with Michele Brown, Christie’s family is connected to the Mob, accusations of several multi-million dollar extortion scandals, and even a petition to the DOJ by a NJ Senator to have Christie investigated for abusing his power as US Attorney General for political purposes.
Within the Republican Party there is a large group of Lonegan supporters that absolutely despise Chris Christie. The news that Daggett is polling at 20% could become the tipping point for these voters to jump ship and get on board with Chris Daggett.
On the flip side, there a majority of Democratic voters who would rather not vote for Corzine. These Democratic party voters feel that as bad as Corzine has been Christie would be much worse. And Christie’s recent steady drip of corruption scandals are help convincing them otherwise. For this group of voters the news of Daggett Breaking 20% in the latest poll is likely to sway a large portion of these voters to vote for Daggett Come election day.
Lonegans 140,000 primary voters leaving GOP
All of those conservative,anti-establishment Republican party voters are realizing that Christie has been playing them like a fiddle.
About 140,000 voted for Lonegan and Christie took all of them for granted.
Now they are answering with their feet.
Daggett and his "its never wrong to vote for the right person " mantra is looking better to the Lonegan voters.
Chrisite treated these dedicated conservative Republicans like crap. Now they are leaving him .
The story of this election will be the story of the migration of Lonegan voters to Daggett.
Stick with the subject at hand
The ballot question MUST BE DEFEATED! We cannot afford any more debt.
As for your attempts to shill for Daggett...Daggett has not come out against the ballot question. He wants to spend more money on programs such as this. He is a big government liberal, not much different than Corzine. He even promotes a way to reduce property taxes with more sales tax revenue just like Corzine did. Lonegan supporters may not like Christie but they know that neither Corzine nor Daggett are the answer.
Lonegan had nothing to do
Lonegan had nothing to do with the referendum defeats in '07. It was a tax issue and onegan running around with his small group of supporters was a myth created in his and Shaftan's own warped mind.
It is time to pull your head out
Until those ballot questions were defeated, no ballot question failed since 1990. No one of any prominence other than Lonegan and the volunteers in Americans for Prosperity came out against the three question.
If Lonegan had not pointed out why those initiatives were bad, they would have passed. Give credit where credit is due.
Face REality
Lonegan is doing his own thing and that appears to be looking out for the NJ Taxpayer which is something our 3 candidates are not doing. Like him or not, he has a following, like 42% of the vote in the primary. It is not his responsibility to deliver them to Christie, it is Christie's responsibility to give them a reason to vote for him or at least court them. He has done neither.
Lonegan fights tough battles and as it relates to issues, he usually wins which is probably what won't happen for the Michelin Man on election day.
Voting YES pays US more than the cost of investing...
People who say "no more investment" are subverting their own desire for a more prosperous state of NJ! EVER MET A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS OWNER WHO SAID "NO MORE INVESTMENT IN MY BUSINESS!" never. NJ should stop making bad spending decisions, and keep investing in its few GREAT INVESTMENTS such as clean water and Green Acres. The vast vast majority of these funds come back to our communities as natural areas, recreation areas and playgrounds all our kids use, and clean water to boil our pasta with!
Vote NO if you don't want to pay other peoples' bills.
Business owners choose to invest in themselves. I do not have to pay more taxes for that. "Clean water" and "green acres" are simply sucking money from the people who work to line the pockets of the politicians, the government workers and eventually eliminate private ownership of property in NJ. Save your own money and buy a house with a yard and make your own park. Stop siphoning money from me to get what you think you are entitled to on my behalf.

Give credit where credit is due.
I give credit to the illegal aliens who put Lonegan's signs together for him.
