Jon Corzine is pushing independents who don't like him to vote for Christopher Daggett, former Gov. Christine Todd Whitman told Fox Business News today.
"He's the one who I think could make a difference. The Corzine people want to keep his numbers at 12. They figure if they keep his numbers at 12, they'll win, because they've been absolutely unable to move Jon Corzine's numbers up," Whitman said. "He cannot get out of the 40's. He is not popular, and they can't win if they run it on just Corzine himself, so they've got to go after Chris Christie and try and drag him down. Now they're urging people, quietly, to support Chris Daggett because by doing that they figure they'll split the independent vote."
Whitman predicted that Republican Christopher Christie would beat Corzine on November 3.

Whitman is part of Republican Problem
The Republican establishment ,of whom Whitman is a part, and Chrisite represents have ignored a big part of their base . The 140,000 Lonegan primary voters have been instructed to sit down ,shut,up and just vote like " good" Republicans.
Well they have responded with a big "hell no"! Christie and the other establishment Republicans have treated Lonegan and his 140,000 followers as second class citizens.
Many will not vote for Christie or they have found Daggett and his message " it is never wrong to vote for the right person" similar to the Lonegan mantra.
Whitman and others like her have tried to convince conservative Lonegan voters to follow like sheep.
They are not doing so and that is why this race is tied.
Christie is too arrogant to fix the problem by now standing with Lonegan and campaigning with Lonegan.
Christie wants the support of Lonegan voters but he does not want to be seen with them in public.
He no longer has to worry, they will be seen with Daggett.
Whitman is sooo wrong
Daggetts numbers are steady because he has benefited from the arrogance shown by Chrisite to Steve Lonegan and his 140,000 supporters.
Corzine had to do nothing! Christie is the one who has driven loyal conservative Republicans ,who voted for Lonegan, into the Daggett camp.
Christie acted like he did not need them throughout the summer and early fall. Now he needs them and he says"who else you going to support?"
WHAT ARROGANCE!!!!!
He will not be seen with Lonegan. He will not give Lonegan and his supporters the chance to be part of the campaign. But now he wants the "loyal" Republicans to come home.
The answer is simple .About 140,000 "guaranteed" Republican voters will now stay at hoem or vote Daggett.
..and their new mantra? " Ignore me will you!!!"
Lonegan lost. Get over it.
Lonegan lost. Get over it.
Lonegan lost. Get over it.
Lonegan lost. Get over it.
140,000 don't appreciate your arrogance
He lost ,but that does not mean he should be ignored by Christie.
Because of the arrogance of Republican establishment people 140,000 are seeking a new candidate.
A vote for Daggett is a vote against Christie arrogance!
Do you believe any Lonegan supporter would back Daggett
How much is Corzine paying for this propaganda?
Daggett is perfect substitute
Christie has taken the Lonegan supporters for granted. The basic rule in politics is never alienate your base.
Christie has ignored the conservative base and he has ,in effect, told Lonegan supporters to sit down, shut up ,and just vote Republican.Christie will not even campaign with Lonegan.
Lonegan voters are ,by nature, independent thinkers.
Treat them like Christie has treated them and they will turn on you.
Remember ,Lonegan voters knew that the Lonegan candidacy was a long shot ,yet they still voted for him. They will now do the same for Daggett. They have taken the Daggett mantra to heart," It is never wrong to vote for the right person."
Chris Christie has lost 140,000 Republican primary voters with his arrogance.
firstamend
Who knew that Lonegan supporters were so shallow?
They have taken the Daggett mantra to heart," It is never wrong to vote for the right person."
So it's about slogans and not principles? You know what---I think you're wrong. I think Lonegan supporters will back christie because they know he is the only candidate for smaller govt and less taxes.
I think you and some other posters, are just bitter jackasses with a wharped agenda.
Time will tell....
Christie is corrupt
Lonegan supporters will not back christie because they know he is the most corrupt candidate running.
Lonegan voters want Corzine out
And 99% are voting for Christie.
Lonegan even endorsed Christie.
Nice try Corzine supporters pretending to be Lonegan backers.
Corsline
I think you may be right, these may be Corzine people. They can't win on their own (how embarassing after so many years in public office) so all they could do is dirty tricks and lie.
I agree. Lonegan voters in very large part are issue voters and while their candidate did not get the nod, they know Christie is by far the candidate with the best chance to turn this state around and who represents their values.
bull
every Lonegan voter I know(and a few of them are Ron Paul voters too) are supporting Christie, enthusiastically! They know the stakes of this election, redistricting come up again next year and they know with Corzine in power we(conservatives) WILL get the short end of the stick.
Poll proves you wrong
The Republican establishment people are running scared. You told Lonegan voters to sit down and shut up,but they did not act like sheep.
In the last poll you saw that for the first time Christie is losing support from Republicans .
These are the Lonegan supporters who have had enough of Chrisite taking them for granted.
Check the polls if you don't believe me.
Lonegan supporters are NOT VOTING for Christie. They are moving to Daggett since they are obviously NOT WANTED IN THE PARTY OF ESTABLISHMENT REPUBLICANS.
Lonegan supporters ARE RUNNING AWAY FROM CHRISTIE!
Here, READ THIS!:
The gubernatorial race is tied, according to a new Monmouth University/Gannett poll.
The poll shows Gov. Jon Corzine and Republican gubernatorial candidate Christopher Christie each getting 39%, while independent Christopher Daggett gets 14%.
A Monmouth poll from the beginning of this month showed Christie ahead of Corzine by three points - 43% to 40% -- with Daggett taking 8% of the vote.
Today's poll found that once reluctant Democrats are sticking with Corzine, but there may be some base trouble for Christie with the Republican base. Christie had 86% of Republicans' support in the poll released early in the month and has 81% of the base in todays. Corzine, who in July had 71% of Democrats' support, now has 76%.
THATS RIGHT ,CHRISITE WENT FROM 86% TO 81% !
LONEGAN SUPPORTERS HAVE HAD IT WITH HIS ARROGANCE. CHRISTIE HAS REFUSED TO CAMPAIGN WITH LONEGAN AND HE HAS REFUSED TO HAVE HIS SUPPORTERS AS PART OF HIS CAMPAIGN .
BY ELECTION DAY THAT 81% WILL BE DOWN EVEN FURTHER!
Daggett is still a shill
He's a man of nothing but self! He just moves from one position to another whatever benefits him best.
Does anyone know his full involvement with Cherokee & Encap? That would make an interesting bed time story.
Daggett = Spoiler
Chris Daggett is a spoiler, pure and simple. Jon Corzine may not be able to win this race on his own. Too many people are on to him. They have not only witnessed, but have sadly experienced the utter failure of his Administration.
And, at this point, there in no possibility at all that Daggett can be elected. People who were saying that weeks and even months ago, have been proven correct. But Chris Daggett hangs on in spite of the fact that he is out of the running. One, therefore, begins to suspect that there may be a "deal" of some sort between Corzine and Daggett to keep him in the race.
Whatever it may (or may not) be, in my opinion what we do know for certain is that Jon Corzine is a corruptor. He freely buys loyalty, sometimes with his own cash, and sometimes with ours. Chris Daggett, however, insists that Jon Corzine is not corrupt.
Personally, he has garnered loyalty with obscenely generous "break-up" gifts for his state-worker union moll (and in at least one instance included a hefty mortgage forgiveness for girl friend's family member -- the one who was accused of abusing access to confidential tax records at his state job); he has personally given boodles of tax-free "bonuses" of cash to the state employees who work in his office; and he has personally loaded the coffers of certain support groups, with loans that subsequently just go away. And the endorsements appear.
Not for nothing, Corzine has also used and abused our public money, even exercising his own special contribution to the wrecking of the State's pension system by appointing obscene double dippers, who are tacking on years and years of pension-boosting credits, and simultaneously receiving full medical benefits, while only holding down part-time positions.
One of them was even brought in as a top dog in Corzine's re-election campaign. He was reappointed to the part-time position at the Local Finance Board by Corzine, where he makes about $12,000 a year, but receives FULL MEDICAL BENEFITS. Each of the five years he has been there (that perk job was originally part of the golden parachute he received from former Governor McGreevey) is tacked on to his pension total, which will be calculated as a percentage of his three highest years of salary -- those as as McGreevey's Chief of Staff. And, because that part-time job has full medical coverage, he will ultimately be able to retire from that position, with such benefits.
Oh, one more thing. The Local Finance Board oversees ethics laws that apply to local governments! Now, isn't that special?
His is literally and figuratively a case of a Fox being in charge of the chicken coop!

Deeds, not Words
Has Corzine earned a second term? No. Things are not better since he won election. Has Daggett done anything to deserve a vote? Please tell me what he has done. I do not believe what he says. Words are used to manipulate voters. Deeds demonstrate character. Has Christie done anything to deserve a chance to lead NJ? Yes. He fought corruption. He worked on a problem and successfully eliminated criminal enterprise associated with elected officials. For that alone, he deserves a chance.
Daggett Breaks 20% - Can win election
Daggett Breaks 20% in latest Poll. He will have a Major impact on an election.
The 20% threshold represents a psychological barrier and breaking that barrier gives Daggett a chance to win the election.
http://njelection.wordpress.com/2009/10/22/daggett-breaks-20-in-latest-p...
Once the voters who want Corzine out of office realize that Chris Christie’s ship is sinking faster than the Titanic we are likely to see a mass migration of voters from the Christie camp to the Daggett camp. Recent news about Christie includes a possible Christie Affair with Michele Brown, Christie’s family is connected to the Mob, accusations of several multi-million dollar extortion scandals, and even a petition to the DOJ by a NJ Senator to have Christie investigated for abusing his power as US Attorney General for political purposes.
Within the Republican Party there is a large group of Lonegan supporters that absolutely despise Chris Christie. The news that Daggett is polling at 20% could become the tipping point for these voters to jump ship and get on board with Chris Daggett.
On the flip side, there a majority of Democratic voters who would rather not vote for Corzine. These Democratic party voters feel that as bad as Corzine has been Christie would be much worse. And Christie’s recent steady drip of corruption scandals are help convincing them otherwise. For this group of voters the news of Daggett Breaking 20% in the latest poll is likely to sway a large portion of these voters to vote for Daggett Come election day.
Here's Your Psychological Barrier!
Go easy there, alexhiggins732.
The only "psychological barrier" that has been broken is the one that you just ruptured somewhere deep in your overheated fabulism lobe.
You jes been thoughtin' too much, there fella!
Fabulism is for the lefties. They grow up on a steady stream of it, you know.

Is it cold?
When last we spoke you were predicting a McCain landslide; Obama was a philandering communist who would loose the election and Global Warming was a hoax.
How's it feel to be a member of the 20% club?
Who is that on your heals? It’s Chris Daggett!
Maybe I was raised on a steady stream of Fab but its better than secretly wishing the the state would go broke like I know many GOP supporters really feel inside.
I support hope not destruction....
new Rutgers-Eagleton Poll showing another surge for Independent Gubernatorial Candidate Chris Daggett. The polls showed incumbent Democrat Jon Corzine at 39%, Republican challenger Chris Christie at 36% and Independent Chris Daggett at 20%. That means five percent of people of are still either undecided or voting for another candidate.
That is a six percent jump for Daggett over the Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey Poll. It appears at this point it appears the rallying cry of Chirs Christie “A vote for Daggett is a vote for Corzine” may be turned around to “A vote for Christie is a vote for Corzine”.
The biggest issues is that it appears about 40% of New Jersey voters lack the ability to vote for anybody other than a Democrat. If Cozine falls to 35% in polling, Daggett very likely will win.
So hmmmm... 5% undecided and 4% margin of error... just maybe...
20+5 for Daggett= 25%
36-4= 32% for Christie.
Also in the Ventura Race, he polled at 27% in the final poll and actually pulled 37% of the vote the margin of error was way off.
I smell an upset.
Lonegan influence possibilities
As a Lonegan supporter, I was very disappointed he did not win the nomination. But I was pleased to see how much support Lonegan has in NJ.
There is zero chance Lonegan will have any influence in another Corzine administration. However, there is some chance he will have a voice or influence in a Christie administration.
And there is no way NJ can survive with another 4 yrs of Corzine administration. I think it is essential to make getting Corzine out the prime goal of this election.
Daggett will only serve as a spoiler working for Corzine.
Christie is the spoiler. He can't win
A vote for Christie is a vote for Corzine.
Christie's ship is sinking. Get off while you can. If you want Corzine out of office spread the word about Daggett
Got Kids, Fabulist
Got Kids II,
Gee, I see your bad habit of utterly misrepresenting the views of others, including mine, has not abated even one little bit. Either that, or you have a memory like unto a sieve!
I also notice that you won't touch my prior comment on this thread that Governor Corzine is an unabashed enabler who talks an ethics game, but has a bad habit of buying support, with both his private and with public funds.
Even his top campaign nasty boy, Jamie Fox is on the Corzine gravy train, racking up years and years of pension time, and receiving full medical benefits, for holding down a strictly part-time job at the Local Finance Board.
And even though he signed a double-dipper prohibition into law, Corzine has a couple of blatant double-dippers he's placed on that Local finance Board, including Susan Bass Levin, who he also put in the Deputy Ex. Dir position at the Port Authority, and Richard F. Turner, who it turns out is also the Mayor of Weehawken, New Jersey, making him yet another double-dipper.
Never mind, of course, that the Local Finance Board serves as the ethics oversight board for local government.
Jon needs his "yes men" there, so he doesn't mind the hypocricy, or the fact that the pension system is at serious financial risk.
