Cecile Richards, the president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, today endorsed Gov. Jon Corzine for re-election.  Corzine also has the backing of the Planned Parenthood Action Committee of New Jersey.

"Gov. Corzine and Chris Christie's record on women's health are complete polar opposites," said Richards, whose mother, former Texas Gov. Ann Richards was defeated for re-election by Republican George W. Bush.  "Gov. Corzine is a strong and passionate advocate for women's health and women's rights. Chris Christie would move New Jersey backward on women's health."

Christie is expected to be endorsed today by the New Jersey Taxpayers Association.

Independent Christopher Daggett today won the endorsement of Gene Baldassari, an independent State Assembly candidate in the 14th district.  Baldassari is running on the Modern Whig Party ticket.

"I have not looked into all of his ideas. But it is not necessary. Even if we disagree on some issues, we agree on the most important need for New Jersey," Baldassari said.  "An Independent Governor would be independent enough to break the monopolistic stranglehold that's preventing good ideas from penetrating the walls of the State House. Until we cure that disease, there is little profit in looking at any other issues. That is enough for me to consider him as a viable choice for Governor.
