PolitickerNJ.com's 2009 Power List

The POLITICKERNJ.COM POWER LIST 2009 identifies New Jersey’s 100 most politically influential personalities. In developing our list, we eliminated anyone who currently holds elected office, as well as the Judiciary. We also eliminated the living former Governors, United States Senators. We believe that all former statewide officeholders remain highly influential and well respected.   We have also not included the GOP gubernatorial nominee, Chris Christie, or former Sen. Bill Gormley, whose power is extraordinary.

This is an Insiders List. We looked at policy makers, party leaders, fundraisers, lobbyists, labor unions, businesses, and associations and have assembled the ultimate list of New Jerseyans with clout, with an impact on politics and government in the Garden State.

We selected names based on a fairly unscientific curve: we allocated spaces on this list for a dozen different categories within the New Jersey political community -- so #11 on the list of important fundraisers or donors doesn't make the list, but the most influential congressional staffer does. Just remember that our list is purely subjective.

There are no right or wrong answers, and this list is forever changing. Watch for the Power List to be updated frequently. As always, we welcome your comments on this list or anything else on the PolitickerNJ.com website.  Contact Wally Edge at editor@politickernj.com.

The list is becoming a joke.

Nothing more than a tool to sell ads, when you have the head of the FBI as the most important person in politics, you really have to wonder what these people are thinking. The list has become almost comical. Vote Column "A" - All the way!

FBI

putting the head of the nj fbi office at 1 on the power list is brillant. after the last two weeks can we doubt the power of the feds in nj politics? i watched dun on tv, he is strong, committed and doesnt seek like he takes any crap. and he doesn't answer to a bunch of politicians. cool pick, wally!

Corzine?

The most powerful governor in the nation? Are you smoking something?

No Christie

Thank god Christie's equally disgusting brother Todd is not on this list. He sits online all day like a 10 year old insulting people on here under a name I won't disclose, but I am sure everyone can guess who he is.

#29- Steve Lonegan: Conservative Activist

"For a time, it looked like he could win the Republican nomination for Governor."

Ummm...no. It never looked like that.

"It's always seemed to me like a mission. A holy one, like the Blues Brothers. It's a marathon. You can't quit; even coming in dead last has honor. Quitting doesn't."- David Carradine

Not having elected officials

Not having elected officials or former Governor's is kind of dumb. I can think of quite of few that should have been there. Not all EO's or former Gov's command the same level of respect. For example, not having Jim Florio there based on the growth of his politically powerful law firm is senseless.

So Carla?

Hey Carla, I was disappointed that you only fell to 99 from 12. Like they say in sports. Wait'll next year. Bye Bye Top 100. By the way. How are those e-mails doing?

Don't forget Trumpie's other bona fides

Namely, the future father-in-law of politickernj's publisher.

#60

Great job pointing out that the Turnpike never had an ED make the list before. While i'm sure Ms Scaccetti is extraordinarily qualified she does in fact replace Michael Lapolla, who replaced Ed Gross. Let's be honest, both of those guys had the star power of the Newark Bears in their inaugural season. Ok, even today.

Did you really need to point out that this was the first time? Hasnt Lapolla suffered enough indignities? Does anyone else remember the Congressional campaign? He could have run on a ticket with Obama and still came in third.

And then you guys went and boned him again making him the Runner Up for the Loser of the Year. I cant remember who actually could have topped that implosion but my theory is that you gave him runner up because it would have been a joke to ever have him win at anything. If that's the case then we all truly understand your reasoning.

Disappointed

Wow, can't get over how horrible this list is. Really disappointed in you Wally.

Layton JOKE

Should be Paulsen not the fat guy. He takes his orders from Napolean anyway.

Really

A waiter out ranks the Political Director of one of the State's largest and most active union's. The Carpenters are one of the most active union's they are always out for Rally's, and GOTV.

Observation

Aside from Steve Lonegan and Rick Shaftan, who are representative of all Conservative Principles, all conservative groups are MIA. One can assume that their tunnel vision has caused them to be irrelevant.

Conservative's will be relevant when they are locked arm in arm with the other conservative groups. When the Pro-life fight as if their own life depends on the 2nd amendment rights and the right to the fruits of your labor (for you RINOs that means the taxes you pay because you are a productive member of society), then we will see change and more of the Single issue reps on the list.

"If you don't read the newspapers, you are uninformed; if you do read the newspapers, you are misinformed."  - Mark Twain

LOL

I guess seniors are not productive members of society? What a joke you have become. I used to actually have some respect for you.

Ms Ivette Mendez

I noticed the absence of Ms Ivette Mendez from this list. Ms Ivette Mendez has been known in the New Jersey Latino community for many years. She was also the Communication Director for Jon Corzine when he was a Senator and as Governor. In addition, in the same capacity for Sen. Bob Menendez. Presently she runs the LatinosNJ website, with emphasis on the Latino community and culture. She has given of herself to bring forth the trials and tribulations of the Latino people in New Jersey. I believe that there has been a glaring omission in your list of 2009 Power List. She has received many awards from different sectors of the New Jersey political and civic organizations. I can go on and on, but suffice to say that the lack of her nomination for the 2009 Power List, is to say the least, unforgivable.
