Bret Schundler, who became the darling of national conservatives during his nine years as Mayor of Jersey City and won the Republican nomination for Governor in 2001, today endorsed Christopher Christie for the GOP gubernatorial nomination.
"I know we need a strong conservative leader who will stand up for middleclass taxpayers, and I believe that Chris Christie will be that kind of leader," said Schundler. "Chris will be the tough, fiscal conservative we need to cut income and business taxes, provide property tax relief and get our state's economy back on track."
Christie, the former U.S. Attorney, praised Schundler's record as mayor.
"Mayor Schundler breathed new life into Jersey City and mobilized a grassroots movement for property tax reform," said Christie. "As Governor, I will revive our state's commitment to revitalizing our cities, cutting our taxes and reforming our schools."

Hooot!
"As Governor, I will revive our state's commitment to revitalizing our cities, cutting our taxes and reforming our schools."
But I won't tell you how I'm gonna do it. Like Nixon, I've got a secret plan!
Screeeeech!!!!
I think that was the sound of the Lonegan bus running into a brick wall. Now even other conservatives are distancing themselves from him.
el diablo
You can count me among them.

Don't knock Nixon
"But I won't tell you how I'm gonna do it. Like Nixon, I've got a secret plan!"
Nixon's "secret plan" ended the war and brought the prisoners home.
You can only hope Chris Christie is half as successful as Nixon was after his first term.
“If you’re unwilling to compete for these votes, and if you’re unable to win these votes, then you’ve got to wonder if you belong on the ballot at all." -- Chris Christie on Steve Lonegan's decision not to attend the Bergen County Republican c
No news here.
Schundler hates Lonegan. He blames Lonegan for losing the 2005 primary to Forrester.
Schundler is done. He couldn't even galavanize any support for mayor in Jersey City.
His endorsement does nothing.
Happy to see Clifford rolling out Nixon as someone to be proud of....
Hysterical.
Vote Column "A"- All the way!
Who let the dogs out?
Schundler always had a problem with principles. He sold out to the liberals time after time.

Things keep looking better for Christie!
This definitely isn't good for Steve Lonegan. Democrats complain Christie doesn't have any specifics. Did President Obama have any specifics when he was running for President? NO! I personally think the winning issue is Jon Corzine's high speed collision. The accident just proves what kind of a person is Jon Cozine. Placing self interests before the safety of our citizens. I like how the MSM seemed to not do any investigation into his accident. It is SHOCKING!
Republican Conscience
Where is your Conscience? Weren't you the one who stated it was Lonegan who had the problem with principles? My how times have changed or have your forgotten what you wrote?
This is the last nail in the Lonegan coffin. Stick a fork in him - he's unelectable and even a "conserative" like Schundelr can see it.
I will repost it for thos who ignored it - RC changed your tune?
Republican Conscience wrote this less than two years ago. Wonder if the real RINOs are Lonegan supporters or do conservatives actually believe that their candidates should adhere to the cause's principles?
Lonegan is finished!

Conservatives expect consistent commitment to principles that define "Republican." Lonegan's caviler attitude towards his own principles has revealed the real Lonegan behind the mask.
Even if the police were targeting him, it was no excuse to break the law. Everyone makes choices everyday and there are consequences to those choices. Personal responsibility is the foundation of most of the Republican principles that define us. My folks always said; "there is never a good reason to do the wrong thing."
Perhaps if Lonegan hadn't alienated his core supporters in the last primary, he would have had an army of volunteers to assemble the signs and not have to resort the use illegals.

What did Schundler sell out for?
To call the WHOPPER a fiscal conservative, when there is not one example that they can show the voters is just plain bunk. Anyone can say they will cut taxes and spending, just remember what another Christie promised.
Besides trying to hurt Lonegan for the 2004 primary in which he Brett never had chance since the leadership wanted a candidate who could fund his own campaign, I would like to know what Schundler was promised by Kyrillos. Did he sell out for the promise of the party to support him as the candidate to run against Menendez in 2012? If so, what a lack of principles Schundler now has.

Good for you, Bret
I wish this was your year, buddy.
Christie should name you LG and designate you as the czar for NJ's failing economy. Big Boy can take on the pay to play issue.
It would be the best tag team since the Wild Samoans.
Snake Pliskin? I heard you were dead.
You are 100% wrong, Snake
I think the Road Warriors (aka Legion of Doom) have the Somoans beat as best tag team!
Sorry Brett
Like I have said before, their are people whose conservatism I will not question. That does not mean however that good conservatives can be wrong, or pressured into making bad decisions. Nobody is perfect. After all, I worked on the Forrester and Kean Jr campaigns before.
Samoans Rule!!!
I have a special place in my heart for the Samoans. I met them when I was a teenager after a local wrestling event. They were actually getting into a Lincoln sedan with a guy named "Sterling Golden" -- later known as Hulk Hogan.
That said, the Road Warriors were pretty damn impressive. The only question remaining is who is your nemesis Martin One's favorite grappler? My best guess is Exotic Adrian Street ;^ )
Snake Pliskin? I heard you were dead.
LOL
I love the original Somoans. I would say top three of all time. I, too, have a soft spot for RW. Knew a wrestler who was injured by them and they helped pay his medical bills. The injury cost him his career. Wow! Adrian Street. That is going back a ways. But I think DelusionalOne's favorite wrestler would have to be the late Adorable Adrian Adonis. The pink leg warmers are a hit in the Martin household on Saturday nights.
Oh Brother
Schundler is supposed to be a conservative. I wonder how hard he had to swallow to call 8C a conservative. What cabinet post or LG post was he promised.
As far as competing for votes, you have to be allowed to compete. When the rules are changed to shut you out and not allow any one else a level playing field, you have no opportunity so why bother. Stop talking out of both sides of your mouth. And get a job other than what the state committee keeps paying you. The republicans will lose seats in both houses because of 8C.
Competing?
If he did not take his ball and run home, Lonegan could have competed. But he chose to do something he is good at. Run away (see the video?) The process did not shut him out - he refused to try like a spoiled brat. Very Sabrinesque. When will Lonegan follow Murray to another party? And I don't work at the state committee. Unlike you, I am gainfully employed. Unelectable.
Thanks for the opportunity to wax nostalgic, OC
Discussing the glory days of the squared circle was a welcome respite from the incessant stream of crapola descending from Mount Lonegan.
Snake Pliskin? I heard you were dead.
