Burlington GOP backs Christie for Governor

Republican gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie has been awarded the Republican organization line in Burlington County, GOP County Chairman Bill Layton announced today.  Layton cited endorsements of the former U.S. Attorney by all 39 Republican municipal chairs and by 118 local elected officials, and rival Steve Lonegan's announcement last week that he would not compete for organization endorsements, as his reason for backing Christie.

"The Republican leadership in Burlington County is unanimous in its support of Chris Christie for Governor," said Layton.  "He is the right person to lead our party against Jon Corzine and the inept, tax-hiking, job-killing, economy-wrecking Trenton Democrats this November, and the right person to lead our state in these challenging times."

Christie will run on a slate with legislative, county and local candidates endorsed by the county organization.  He has already received organizational endorsements in Camden, Essex, Monmouth, and Union counties.
