The Hudson County-based Jersey Journal will close on April 13 "if its revenue is not sufficient to support the papers' reduced expense plan," according to a statement made by publisher Kendrick Ross today. Ross said the possible closure includes their weekly newspaper chain.
"We are optimistic that we will be able to come up with a plan that will save The Jersey Journal and some of our weeklies and position ourselves to grow, once the economy rebounds," Ross said. "We will be looking at everything. We understand how important it is for Hudson County to have a strong local newspaper and we'll be doing everything we can to make sure we can continue to provide that service."
Ross announced last Friday that El Nuevo Hudson, the company's Spanish-language weekly, will close on February 26.
