Democrats have picked up a Republican House seat in New Jersey's third district, with State Sen. John Adler (D-Cherry Hill) defeating Medford Mayor Christopher Myers. The incumbent, Republican Jim Saxton, is retiring after 24 years in Congress. Democrats have not won this seat since 1882.

congratulations to Adler; good fight, Myers
First, I would say to Chris Myers that he put up one heck of a fight and that he was more than just a formidable opponent; he almost pulled this out. Myers surrounded himself with BurlCo GOP machine types that compromised his campaign, and his relentless negativity was offputting. I'm not going to rub in the victory since I know that others on this site are smarting right now.
For those who don't know John Adler or who voted against him, I would say watch him in Congress because you're going to be so proud to have him represent the state. The guy is so talented that he writes state laws, he votes against his own party when he sees fit, and he knows legislation inside and out.
Congressman-elect Adler, you made South Jersey, Haddonfield, Cherry Hill, and all of New Jersey proud tonight. Live up to your promise in the U.S. Congress.
Another fine job.....
Once again, as with the Freeholders, the Clerk, the Surrogate, Chris Myers made the mistake of getting into bed with the Layton/Paulson gang. When you lay down with dogs, you wake up with fleas.
Accurately called by MartinOne a long time ago
Myers certainly put up a good fight--one that made the local pundits describe the 3rd district battle "very close" up to the last minute.
As a Haddonfield Memorial High School grad, I'm glad another HMHS alum represents NJ in Washington DC. I couldn't vote for Adler because I'm not in that district now, but go Bulldawgs!

Well and fairly said. This was a long, contentious campaign, and it ended the appropriate way. That said, Myers certainly proved to be a formidable opponent. If he tones down the negativity, he could have himself a Trenton career someday.
Anyway, great night all around. Congrats Adler and Obama. This country needs a change.

I guess we will be waiting a long time for the Myers Victory!
Congrats to Fat Layton, Geek Jeff Bell, and the goofy looking Jim Logue guy for ruining the Burl Co GOP.
Diane is still a Senator for two more years, will Layton be chair that long?
Myers has WON!
The pundits and drive by media called this election for Adler (Their wishful thinking) when Myers was leading in the vote count. As of 8am on Nov. 5th Chris Myers leads the vote tally by 1756 votes. Chris Myers is the Congressman-Elect representing the 3rd District.
Congratulations
Congratulations to John Adler, the next great congressman from New Jersey.
