Linden Mayor Richard Gerbounka, a Democrat who ran as an independent in 2006 and ousted longtime incumbent John Gregorio, will endorse John McCain for president on Monday. Gerbounka spent twelve years as a Councilman before unseating Gregorio, a former State Senator who been mayor for thirty years.
In 2004, John Kerry carried Linden by a 2-1 margin.
Update: Several Linden Councilmembers will also endorse McCain.

Nice!
Gerbounka is the perfect Reagan Democrat who will make his working-class constituents realize that McCain is a better fit than Obama, especially since Linden is a center of the NJ oil industry.
The question is when will Barack realize his voters are in Linden and not Berlin?
SewarenScoop
Or, Gerbounka is the perfect independent to put the Mayor's office in Linden back to Democrats and to have no impact on the Presidential race.

Get over yourself man. This is only the tip of the iceberg. He is not going to be the only New Jersey Democrat to jump ship and support John McCain, especially if he chooses Joe Lieberman as his VP candidate.
He sucks you guys right in. So consider yourself sucked!- Bill Parcells
Impact
Dino & Scoop...while I suppose McCain can claim this as a "victory" its overall impact cannot be over-estimated. This is thowing a pebble in the ocean and expecting a tidal wave in response. Obama will win in NJ and he will win easy.

Bill Brennen and SJ Blue
It seems that the forces of the P.U.M.A. org are haveing a direct impact on campaign 08 and the far left are throwing a temper tantrum.
Who is Bill Brennen?
Seriously, I don't know.
As for this being a Democrat endorsing McCain, he's no more a Democrat than Lieberman.
They both left the party and were elected as independents, so claiming they are Dems endorsing a GOPer is like claiming that Jim Jeffords endorsing Obama would be a GOPer endorsing a Dem.
Linden
Gerbounka is in control of the Democrat party in linden, except for a few hold outs. So don't try to over analize that.
While his endorsement will not certainly decide NJ, it sends a message that certain factions of Dems don't want Obama.
Reagan Dems and blue collar people are not sure about this guy.
Expect in the Fall
Hudson County Democrats to endorse McCain, and maybe a few in South Bergen. Wouldn't be surprised if a few here in Woodbridge did too.
O and by the way, the iceberg will really be hit with defections from Corzine next year. I'd expect the GOP to win Edison, North Bergen, and Fair Lawn against him if he isn't taken out by Codey or Sweeney.
FormerlyAnonymous ( Bill Brennan)
everyone who has read this forum knows that FA is always referred to as Bill Brennan by Mountaintop. As for Mc Cain I bet that most DEM public officials are quietly supporting Mc Cain now that Hillary is not on the ballot
Tip of the iceberg
This endorsement is the first of many to come from local Democrats who will have difficulties selling Obama and for fear of losing local races.
Obama is going to be a hard sale for suburban Democrats in places like Bergen, Passaic, Union, Middlesex and Mercer counties.
Vote Column A - All the way!
