NJN News anchor Kent Manahan will retire after more than thirty years as an anchor and reporter, the New Jersey Network announced today. Manahan, who has won five Emmy Awards, has filed for the state’s retirement incentive, which has specific deadlines of August 1 or a later date, with the potential of an extension until July 2009. Manahan and NJN are seeking an extension to provide for an orderly transition.
Manahan is the second top NJN news employee to retire this month. Bill Jobes, the longtime news director, will leave on July 31.
“Every weekday evening, she provides in-depth coverage of New Jersey as part of NJN News, the only broadcast news program that covers the entire state,” said Elizabeth Christopherson, Executive Director of NJN Public Television & Radio. “She has interviewed presidents, governors, heads of state, legislators, political leaders, entertainers and CEOs, winning numerous Emmys as well as national and international journalism awards for her insightful news reports and documentaries. No matter what her future holds, Kent will always be part of our NJN family.”
