Democrat Frank Lautenberg and Republican Dick Zimmer are in a statistical dead heat , 45%-44%, according to a new Rasmussen Reports poll released today – the first since the June 3 primary election. The survey was conducted last week, after Lautenberg, a five-term incumbent, defeated Rep. Andrews in the Democratic primary. Zimmer, who served in Congress from 1991 to 1997, won a three-way GOP primary.

Memo to Dick Zimmer
Here are two winning issues vs. Frank Lautenberg, which I hope you will use in the campaign:
Sen Lautenberg voted against the so-called John Doe Amendment, which pased in the US Senate 57 to 39. The amendment would protect from civil law suits those who report suspicious behavior on airplanes. Even Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer voted "yes" on John Doe. (Barak Obama was absent for that vote)
Sen Lautenberg voted against the The Protect America Act of 2007 (PAA), which was an amendment to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) that was signed into law on August 5, 2007. It removed the warrant requirement for government surveillance of foreign intelligence targets "reasonably believed" to be outside of the United States. This amendment passed the Senate 60 to 28. Barak Obama voted "no' on this amendment.
needs McCain to play in NJ
Zimmer is going to need to raise some money, and more importantly, have McCain spend a lot of money in NJ to have any shot.
without McCain's organization in NJ, he's sunk.
Naming a bill the “Protect
Naming a bill the “Protect America Bill” does not mean it actually protects America. We were doing just fine without the bill prior to 9/11. One incident which was a result of a major intelligence and communication failure on the part of the federal government is no reason to authorize law enforcement to conduct searches without warrants.
Maybe if we stopped using silly names to name bills people would actually read legislation instead of being afraid to take a stand against something simply because it has a fancy sounding name.
I agree that just becasue the bill is called
"the Protect America" act doesn't mean that is necessarily does. But in this case, it does--check out the details. As does John Doe legislation. IMO Sen Lautenberg is quite vulnerable on these votes, if Zimmer decides to make them an issue.
Zimmer is a Loser; And Here's Why...
