Joseph Vas, the Mayor of Perth Amboy since 1990, was defeated in his bid for a sixth term tonight, losing by wide margin to Wilda Diaz, a political newcomer and community activist. Diaz defeated Vas by a 61%-39% margin, 4,095-2,658. Diaz’s slate of Council candidates also won.

Vas loses re-election
A truly good guy who only cared about serving his community.
But as all things change, that seems to be a problem with NJ Politicians, is that they just seem to NEVER GO AWAY.
Good luck in the future Mayor Vas as I have known you for a long time going back to Christie Whitman days.
Hopefully this is a message of things to come - Get It Senator Demechia??????
Let this be a lesson to Joe

Good.
One less dual office-holding moron. That should save the State taxpayers about $2 million a year in wasted grants and b.s. that got funneled there. Next up, Stack in Union City which is the patronage arm pit of the State.
Hudson had nothing to do with it

Wilda Diaz hired Jim Devine to run her campaign. The message was on the mark and her literature was perfect.

I commented last week that Joe Vas was going to lose and the results prove my point.

Now pay attention to Elizabeth, where Chris Bollwage is going to lose a Democratic primary on June 3. The new mayor will be Edward Bryant Koon, with Sammy Rodriquez, Armando DaSilva and George O'Grady sweeping into council seats.

Hudson had nothing to do with it
Oh, I'm sure it didn't. We didn't see nuttin' if you didn't see nuttin'!
Seriously though, I knew Joe Vas was ruined after he ran that disaster of a congressional campaign.
I'm sure it's only a matter of time before he loses his assembly seat as well.

Rude Awakening
I hope Mrs. Diaz knows what she is in for and she needs to recognize the 30% of the town that is NOT "Hispanic" but have a vested interest in the city of PA. As mayor she should be impartial instead of continually dividing this city. How about a Mayor for the city instead of a Mayor for the "Hispanic's".
There is no denying Joe Vas turned this city around too bad he got a bit too confident and was distracted by other political aspirations.
What happens now that her sister is suing the city? Isn't that a conflict of interest?
Devine?
Devine had little or nothing to do with this win. In fact, he was an impediment to those doing the effective work.
