Key labor leader backs Andrews for U.S. Senate

Raymond Pocino, the national Vice President and Eastern Regional manager of the Laborers International Union of North America (LIUNA), says that Rob Andrews should run for the U.S. Senate.

“I want to make it clear that my support of you is not done in protest of Senator Lautenberg,” Pocino wrote to Andrews.

“The goal of any election should always be to elect the absolute best candidate to serve. The fact that someone is (the) incumbent should have no bearing; who would make the best United States Senator should.”

Pocino, a Commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, served four terms as President and Business Manager of Construction & General Laborers Local 172 in Trenton, NJ and four terms as a commissioner and chairman of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. Pocino also serves as Vice President of the NJ State AFL-CIO and serves as a trustee of both the NJ Alliance for Action and New Jersey SEED.
