GREENWALD: GOVERNOR RIGHT IN MAKING ECONOMY FOCUS OF STATE-OF-THE-STATE(TRENTON) - Assembly Budget Committee Chairman Louis Greenwald said Governor Jon Corzine was right in making New Jersey's economy and the state's ability to emerge from the national recession the focus of his annual State-of-the-State message.Greenwald also said he supports giving the Governor additional time to prepare his FY2010 state budget to allow for the inclusion of any forthcoming federal funds that could be used in tandem with strategic cuts elsewhere in the fiscal plan to put New Jersey on a firm financial footing.Greenwald (D-Camden) released the following statement:"The economy far outweighs any issue currently facing New Jersey and the Governor was wise to focus his address on the enormous challenge we face in the coming months."Last year, the Legislature and Governor worked together to enact the largest budget cut in state history. "Given the current situation, when we receive the Governor's proposed budget in March we will need to be prepared to work together to break that record again."New Jerseyans don't want to hear more rhetoric or see more finger-pointing. They want us to focus honestly on how we can improve the state's economy and business climate."We have an opportunity to recast state government and an obligation to make fiscal decisions that will ensure families and businesses emerge from this recession stronger and better-positioned for long-term success."
