FISHER: FARMERS LOSING GREAT ADVOCATE
WITH KUPERUS RESIGNATION

(BRIDGETON) - Assemblyman Douglas Fisher today lamented the decision by state Agriculture Secretary Charles Kuperus to leave his post at year's end, calling the departure a tremendous loss to New Jersey's farming community.

Fisher, who chairs the Assembly Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, worked closely with Secretary Kuperus on efforts this past spring to prevent the state Department of Agriculture from being dissolved and accompanied the Secretary on numerous South Jersey farm tours over the past seven years.

Fisher (D-Cumberland) released the following statement:

"Charlie Kuperus continued the fine custom that the Department of Agriculture be nonpartisan and focused solely on promoting and preserving New Jersey's farming tradition.

"From his annual farm tours and regular visits to produce stands and agricultural fairs to being a powerful voice for farmland preservation, Charlie always had the future of New Jersey's farms on his mind.

"Charlie always understood that much of New Jersey's potential is firmly rooted in its farms and farming families.

"Every farm and farmer in New Jersey had a strong champion in Charlie Kuperus."
