LAMPITT: ENERGY MASTER PLAN CRITICAL TO GROWING GOOD-PAYING 'GREEN JOBS' IN NEW JERSEY
(TRENTON) - Assemblywoman Pamela R. Lampitt today said the energy master plan unveiled by Governor Jon Corzine would make New Jersey a leader in the burgeoning "green jobs" movement by providing the demand for high-tech manufacturing and construction jobs.
The energy master plan relies heavily on making the state more reliant on solar, wind and other clean-energy technology to meet future power needs.
Lampitt is emerging as one of the Legislature's leading voices in support of making New Jersey a "green jobs" magnet. A study authored by the Center for American Progress and the Political Economy Research Institute at the University of Massachusetts estimated New Jersey could create more than 57,000 jobs through investments in alternative energies, creating new mass transit infrastructure and retrofitting buildings to be more energy efficient.
Lampitt (D-Camden) released the following statement:
"This is more than just an energy master plan - it's also a much-needed 'green jobs' master plan.
"Pushing the state to produce 30 percent of its total energy demand through clean and renewable sources will require us to put people to work.
"It will boost a manufacturing sector that will be called upon to produce more solar panels and windmills.
"It will create countless 'green collar' jobs, from the laboratories where the next generation of energy sources will be conceived all the way to the job sites where these technologies will be installed.
"The future of our state's economy now rests on our ability to make this alternative energy vision a real and sustainable reality."
