Doherty's problem is raising money
By Wally EdgeAssemblyman Michael Doherty's withdrawal from the 2008 race for United States Senator marks the third time the Warren County Republican has ended bids for higher office: he mulled a run for Governor in 2005, openly considered a challenge to incumbent Leonard Lance in the '07 State Senate primary. He dropped his challenge to Lance, who had agreed to serve as Co-Chairman of Doherty's exploratory committee. Doherty, a West Point graduate considered among the most conservative members of the Legislature, has one major impediment if he wants to move up: he can't raise money.
