Doherty's problem is raising money

Assemblyman Michael Doherty's withdrawal from the 2008 race for United States Senator marks the third time the Warren County Republican has ended bids for higher office: he mulled a run for Governor in 2005, openly considered a challenge to incumbent Leonard Lance in the '07 State Senate primary.  He dropped his challenge to Lance, who had agreed to serve as Co-Chairman of Doherty's exploratory committee.  Doherty, a West Point graduate considered among the most conservative members of the Legislature, has one major impediment if he wants to move up: he can't raise money.
