Dear George:

The Democratic State Committee intercepted the following letter as a result of "staff error" on the part of the Forrester Campaign.Dear George,

First and foremost I'd like to thank you for the strong leadership you've provided our nation during your time in office. As a "Bush Pioneer", I'm proud to have played a part in your election by contributing hundreds of thousands of dollars to your campaigns, and I appreciate the autographed 8 1/2 by 11 photograph that you sent to me in return. I've framed it and it sits on my nightstand.

As you know I'm running for Governor of New Jersey on a platform that emulates the positions you've taken on stem cell research, environmental issues and tax breaks for the rich. Since I have generously contributed to your campaigns and embraced your ideological philosophy I was hoping you would join me on the campaign trail in the closing days of this election. I fondly recall the days of 2002 when your poll numbers were higher and you agreed to stump for my senate campaign.

Given that your approval ratings in New Jersey have fallen to an all time low, many Garden State Republicans would hesitate to bring you on the campaign trail, but I feel that there are ways we can get around this obstacle. When it comes to my positions on stem cell research, making polluters pay, gun safety and the true cost of my tax scheme (just between you and me it's $9 billion), I've been very successful at hiding the truth from the public, and much like we've hidden the truth, I"m confident that we can hide you too.

Now I understand that it would not look very Presidential to have you skulking around with me in an attempt to avoid the media (believe me I know how this feels, I spent 21 days holed up in my campaign headquarters in August), so I'd like to ask you to film a campaign ad for me too.

Currently we're on track to set a record for the longest amount of time a candidate for Governor can go without uttering a single word in his ads. While I have appeared briefly in my general election TV ads (and that was only after criticism from the Democratic State Committee), I haven't said a single word in any of them. I hope you can help me continue my streak. In the interest of full disclosure I must admit there is one catch here. I was hoping that you might be able to have your campaign committee pay for the production and the airing of this ad so that no record of our arrangement appears on my campaign finance report.

I understand that you may be a bit preoccupied with Karl Rove's imminent indictment, but I'd like to kindly remind you that Mr. Rove did come to New Jersey on my behalf. I do hope that you'll follow his example and pay us a visit. Please contact my campaign at your earliest convenience to let us know if you'll be able to join us, or if it's more convenient you can just drop off a note at my shell company in Washington DC, Heartland Fidelity, all of that mail gets shipped right back to the real company in New Jersey anyway.

Best,

Douglas Forrester

P.S.

Please do not acknowledge this letter publicly, any event you partake in will be hosted by the Republican State Committee and will be disavowed by my campaign (much like we did in the Star Ledger when the First Lady visited on October 14th). Furthermore please instruct the White House Communications not to bill any events you might participate in as "Doug Forrester for Governor" events, as we will have to disavow that as well. Thanks again, and I look forward to campaigning with you (though I won't acknowledge that publicly).
