West Paterson, NJ – October 9, 2009 – Democratic Passaic County Chairman John Currie confirmed his party’s full support of incumbent State Senator John Girgenti (D-Hawthorne). Currie stated, “Senator Girgenti continues to represent the residents of his district with distinction. He has my complete support as well as the full support of his Assembly running mates Assemblywomen Nellie Pou and Elease Evans as well as local Democratic municipal leaders in every town within the 35th legislative district, including Anthony DeNova of North Haledon; Barbara O’Byrne of Totowa; Irene Brown of Glen Rock; Delores Sykes Williams and Reverend James Kuykendall of Paterson; Jerry Volpe of Haledon and Mayor Mohamed T. Khairullah of Prospect Park.” Chairman Currie, currently in his eighteenth year at the helm in Passaic County and the longest serving Democratic Chair in New Jersey, believes that party unity is essential in order for Governor Jon Corzine to win his tough re-election bid. Currie added, “Any suggestion that the Passaic County Democratic Party does not stand fully in support of Senator Girgenti is ridiculous. I continue to believe that now is time for Democrats to focus on the re-election of Governor Corzine in November. The top priority of the Passaic County Democratic Committee is to help Jon Corzine reach the finish line and defeat Chris Christie.”
