Newark City Council President Mildred Crump says that Keith Reid, who was arrested yesterday on charges that he accepted a cash bribe to deliver a city insurance contract, has taken a leave of absence from his post as her Chief of Staff.
She says Reid requested the leave.
“Having known Keith Reid for most of his life, this situation saddens and shocks me. I cannot forget that this is also a painful time for his family and friends who are also suffering through this. My prayers go out to them," said Crump.
“In the meantime, we are awaiting the report from Newark Inspector General, James Wright, which will be completed by Monday. I will review it and make a decision based on its findings. I must add that this is a nation of laws and no one has forfeited their right to due process," Crump said. "However, I believe it is in the best interest of this Office, our community and Keith that he is allowed to focus his energy on addressing his personal matters."
