The Courier News today endorsed two Democratic incumbents in the 22nd district, but pointedly passed on recommending the re-election of Linda Stender to the State Assembly. Stender, a three-term incumbent, nearly ousted Congressman Michael Ferguson last year and is running again in 2008.
The newspaper said that Stender is spending too much time running for Congress and not enough talking about state issues, and suggested that she is "content to get along with the ruling team" in Trenton.
Instead, the endorsd Robert Gatto, who has run unsuccessfully for North Plainfield Councilman -- even though he offers, they say, impractical ideas.
