DOMINICAN AMERICAN COUNCIL OF NJ ENDORSES CORZINE FOR GOVERNOR
Council calls Corzine a "champion" of Latino issues
NEW BRUNSWICK - U.S. Senator Jon S. Corzine was endorsed by the Dominican American Council of New Jersey. The group, which lauded Corzine's accomplishments in the U.S. Senate, made its announcement on Sunday in Wood-Ridge.
Lucilo Santos, the council's president, lauded Corzine's accomplishments in the U.S. Senate, and noted his work on issues such as education and immigration. Santos said, "Senator Jon Corzine has been a 'champion' in Washington. He has been working for Latinos as a U.S. Senator and I know he will do the same for us as Governor."
Senator Corzine said, "I am very proud of this endorsement and I treasure the support of the Dominican community. Our most precious resource is our hardworking and diverse population. We may come from different places and speak different languages, but we're all part of the New Jersey family. As Governor, I pledge to ensure that our state government represents the diversity that makes New Jersey great."
The Dominican American Council of NJ, founded in 2002, serves approximately 150,000 residents statewide through political and educational programs.
Corzine has been endorsed by several Latino organizations, including the Latino Leadership Alliance of New Jersey, which endorsed him earlier this month. In recent days, he was endorsed by the National Association of Latino Peace Officers and the Peruvian American Political Action Committee.
In addition, Senator Corzine has received endorsements from several local and state organizations, including the International Association of Fire Fighters, Firemen's Mutual Benevolent Association, Sierra Club, NJ State Building & Construction Trades Council, Citizen Action, NJ State AFL-CIO, IAMAW, Garden State Equality, NJ Stonewall Democrats, NJEA, and the NJPBA.

“She has already chosen the interests of the insurance industry over the health care needs of working people, she took millions from Wall Street as the economy went into a meltdown, and now she wants to purchase a job in Congress at a time when so many have lost their jobs because of the actions of big bankers and others." -- Monmouth County Democrats spokesman Mike Mangan, on Republican Diane Gooch, who is challenging U.S. Rep.
