PERUVIAN AMERICAN GROUP
ENDORSES CORZINE FOR GOVERNOR
Cites his success as a businessman and commitment to Latino issues
PATERSON - The Peruvian American Political Action Committee today endorsed U.S. Senator Jon S. Corzine during an event in Paterson. Norberto Curitomai, founder of the organization, said Corzine's background, including his years as the CEO of Goldman Sachs, made him the best candidate for governor.
"Jon Corzine is the person we have selected because we believe he is the best choice," said Curitomai. "We believe that Corzine will be the one to pay attention to the issues that affect Latinos."
In accepting the group's endorsement, Corzine said, "As governor, I will work to increase access to health programs, provide help for first-time home buyers, provide more affordable housing, and increase tuition assistance grants so more middle- and lower-income students can go to college, and I will invest in our cities to create more jobs with good salaries."
The Peruvian American Political Action Committee was founded in 2002 in Paterson to promote civics and education. The Peruvian community is estimated at about 50,000 statewide.
Corzine has been endorsed by several Latino organizations, including the Latino Leadership Alliance of New Jersey, which endorsed him earlier this month, and the National Association of Latino Peace Officers, which endorsed him on Saturday. On Sunday, he was endorsed by the Dominican American Council of New Jersey.
In addition, Senator Corzine has received endorsements from several local and state organizations, including the International Association of Fire Fighters, Firemen's Mutual Benevolent Association, Sierra Club, NJ State Building & Construction Trades Council, Citizen Action, NJ State AFL-CIO, IAMAW, Garden State Equality, NJ Stonewall Democrats, NJEA, and the NJPBA.
