Conaway endangers funding for veterans and higher education

Burlington— The campaign of 7th District Senator Diane Allen and Assembly candidates Brian Propp and Nancy Griffin today issued the following statement on Herb Conaway’s support for selling the New Jersey Lottery.
“In a failed attempt to justify his vote to allow the Governor to spend freely from taxpayers’ pockets to prepare for the sale or lease of our toll roads, Herb Conaway told us he wants to look at selling the Lottery. In so doing, he further proved why selling off our state assets is a bad idea for New Jersey. Selling off the Lottery means giving away hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue each year- funds that pay for veterans housing and higher education to the tune of $520 million in 2005 alone. In his haste to change the subject from his vote to sell the Turnpike, he managed to show us just one more way that New Jersey would be hurt by selling off state assets. Our veterans and those seeking to further their education deserve a whole lot better.”
