ETHICS REFORM BEGINS WITH ENDING CONFLICTS OF INTERESTLIVINGSTON, NJ – Twenty seventh District State Assembly candidate Barry Funt today called on Mayor/Assemblyman John McKeon and Assemblywoman Mila Jasey to renounce their endorsement by the NJEA, citing the unconscionable conflict of interest posed by accepting the endorsement of a group that represents the recipients of public funds.
“Real pay-to-play reform means ending the conflicts of interest created by legislators accepting the support of special interest groups that receive public funds,” Barry said. “The only way to end government corruption and to get New Jersey’s fiscal house in order is to elect representatives who are accountable solely to the residents of their district, and not to special interest groups.”
“I believe in expanding educational opportunity for everyone. I support the commitment that our state’s teachers have made to their communities. I also see how much damage these conflicts of interest have done to our state, and that is why I chose not to seek the endorsement of the NJEA or any other group that represents recipients of public funds.”
“I call on my opponents to join me in renouncing the influence of special interest groups and in working to represent the residents of our district, and not any one organization.”
